360, I accidentally kicked, kept it under my bed in college, and it was the first-generation. Not my best.

Wii, also first generation, so the lens degraded quickly. It also couldn't pick up wifi.

PS 2, lens again. Again, 1st generation.

PS 3, used every single day for about 8 hours for at least a year. We use it to watch QI and New Tricks and Netflix.

I guess you just had back luck in the case of the PS 2 and Wii, but the others... yeah, sorta makes sense now. Except the Xbox 360, the 1st iteration was a piece of s%&*, through and through. It's a small miracle that Microsoft didn't lose that generation of the console wars because of how damned common that issue was. There are VERY few people who still own a working launch edition of the 360, and that's because they probably never used it often.

PS 2 BC is probably not in the cards for Sony right now due to the PS 2 not really making much money for them anymore, at least not due to software. There's little financial incentive to sell PS 2-compatible hardware for Sony at the moment.

Heck, even PS 3-compatible hardware is a bit iffy, as the PS 4 is unlikely at this point to be backwards compatible.

So Nintendo and Microsoft could likely be the only ones with BC?

sad

Then again, PSN does exist... Pity I live in Europe... (Where the PSP PSN is almost shit.)

I can't say I'm sure about Microsoft's next system either, although that's still up in the air. Latest rumours aren't encouraging however.

Doesn't Microsoft's next system have some kind of thing where you have to be constantly connected to the internet? I heard it will also not play used games. Yeah I can't see myself getting the 720.

I think those are just rumors. However, I think I'm fine with my fat, PS 2-compatible PS 3 for the time being.

Sony on why they won't price cut the older models.

"There's no price drop formally, but the thing that's been happening in the market over the last year or so is that there's been so many retail price promotions, and so many different gift card offers and all those things, being done by all of us [Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony], that we've heard from our consumer, 'Enough with all these weird price moves. What we really want is content and games and value,'" Koller tells Engadget.

Most consumers we can think of (ourselves included) love having great content, but hold an equal passion for cheaper consoles. Koller says his answer is "kind of a long way of saying, 'No, no formal price drop.'" Besides, there are only so many older PS 3 models on the shelves, he points out.

What? I'm not sure I understand that logic at all.

There was logic behind that decision?

Well I was hoping there would be some logic even if it's faulty. That just seems like a non-answer in the vein of "Because we feel like it."
