so, I need some input here—it seems both Nanoha and the Spirit Armor can travel at speeds excelling Mach 2 (1400 mph) for sustained periods. Or are they just underestimating jet aircraft?

(I'd really prefer not to have to Worf Nanoha in order for the groundpounders having something to do when they arrive....)

Well, they never tell what flight speeds Nanoha and other mages are capable of, but they do tell us that they need permission to fly in city bounds. That means it's pretty fast.

Well, I would say that they could be, for this mission, the advance guard and then in missions after (their ability to fly comes from some kid of tech right?) we could use their tech to upgrade the jet so that it becomes less of an issue.

Nanohaverse Mages, AFAIK, don't need tech to fly — heck, Yuuno can even fly without a Device. Anyway, I figured that she'd be the vanguard till the others arrive.

It's hard to say exactly how fast the spirit armour is supposed to be able to fly. The only time it's shown that they can fly, they go fairly fast; this is, of course, orginally a series set in the 1920s however. So whether a modified version could maintain that level of speed over that amount of time is uncertain to me. And yes, I underestimated jet aircraft.
