So, I've beat Wizardry. Besides being the hardest game I've ever played, another adjective defines this game for its time: Complexity. A 1981 game where there are several groups of enemies, each with different behaviors and patterns, with monsters that even run away when they sense danger.

The dungeon is also extremely complex, with a variety of traps that makes Ultima looks like child's play. Comparing with Ultima I, Wizardry have more of everything: Monsters,classses,spells,equipment... I don't even know how a game this old is so advanced.

The difficult breaks it completely, though. If it weren't this hard, I could say that it was at least on the same level, if not better than Ultima I. The final boss is too damn hard, you have to grind for hours and hours to be able to scratch him. On the end, you still need to get back to the castle but you have to teleport, so you could just land on a rock and have your whole party dead.

Don't know what to expect from this series, I hope the next games are easier. Onto Ultima II then!

[up] thank you.

[up][up] hehehehehehe...

it gets harder.

4th game is apparantly the heardest, for a number of extremely intimidating reasons. one of them being instant death following you around the dungeon in real time, and another being that you have to beat the game within a certain amount of keystrokes.

Okay, this it. Floor Ten, The domain of Werdna. I'll probably be done with this game by tomorrow but I'll need some grinding first. The final boss isn't to be taken lightly from what I've read.

...Yup, I'll definitely need some grinding. I got crushed in the very first battle of floor 10. Two poison giants. They do 40 damage to my whole party and resisted all of my spells. I got obliterated. Fokias managed to decapitate one of them but the other just fnished me off. And I explored most of floors 5 to 9 without having TOO much trouble. I'll need some better equipment too...

Okay, guys. Haven't been dropping into the chat, or playing lately. All I can say is...I FINALLY FINISHED ULTIMA 1!!!! Kinda sad, since you guys already finished Wizardry 1...Oh well, I guess I'll skip it for now. I'll play it later. Onto Ultima 2!

I'm going to have to skip Ultima II. My current save is Unwinnable (little food and HP and no gold) and I can't delete it to create a new character. I've tried overwriting the PLAYER-file in the system files as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the game without it going away. Added to the fact that I really dislike what I've played of it thus far...yeah, skipping.

since you have the gog version, you can delete the save files via: uninstalling, and then going to users/yourusername/appdata/local/virtualstore/programfiles/gog/ultima 2 and then delete the entire ultima 2 folder.

then reinstall.

yeah, its a pain.

Don't feel bad about skipping bad games tongue Ultima II is just a mishmash of weird ideas made into a game. It feels like an experiment, like Garriot was trying to put everything he thought it was cool in it without any coherence. It failed.

There are no clues of what to do. You start the game starving, as always. But this time, it's hard to grind for money, so you just keep dying. After a while, I got the hang of it but I don't know why these games are so easily exploitable, you can get max stats in about 10 seconds with an easy trick.

It's basically the same as Ultima I, grind for money to get the best weapon and armor and to increase HP. But you don't ever need to enter a dungeon this time, they're useless. There are about 6 or 7 monsters in these dungeons and you need torches this time, so skip them.

After getting equipment and HP, you need a sword and a ring to defeat Minax. To get the sword, you need to buy it from a random prisoner in a random city. Yeah. No clues like always. To get the ring, you need to travel to space and get a blessing from a random guy in PLANET X, to get the ring back at Earth from an old man behind a tree. You can stop at any planet from the solar system, jupiter has grass in it. Yep.

The final boss is interesting for its time at least, but the ending sucks even more than Ultima I. At least, Ultima III is like the defining game of the genre, without any sci-fi stuff.

Speaking of "max stats in about 10 seconds with an easy trick": I've been looking everywhere for this mystery portal that supposedly goes straight to San Antonio, and I can't find it anywhere. Are you absolutely sure it's due south from the start?

South from the start, there is a portal. Enter it and then enter another portal, right next where you appeared. http://shrines.rpgclassics.com/pc/ultima2/overworld.shtml try this.

Where is start again? South America 1423 BC?

Also WHAT THE HECK IS THE POINT OF SAVING IF I CAN'T LOAD IT?!

Now I'm dead-locked again. Consider this game skipped.

Don't know if you guys know but, II and III are essencially the same game. Same monsters, weapons, gameplay, everything. The only difference is the dungeon. They're even called Scenario II and III.

Things are a little disorganized right now. On one side, there are people who are playing Ultima II and on the other side, people who are playing Wizardry I or II. It would be good if everyone played Ultima III together, because it's the defining cRPG game. So, I'll give everyone a time to finish the games or to decide to skip them. 5 days would be a good deadline.

Steendy - Done with everything till Ultima III. I decided that i'll be skipping Wizardry II and III as they are basically the same game. I've played a little of both.

Razgriz - Wizardry I, he'll finish it by tomorrow. He'll finish Ultima II and I'm almost certain he'll skip Wizardry II and III.

Tarsen - Done with everything till Ultima III.

Lemurian - Done with Ultimas and Wizardry I. Trying Wizardry II, don't know if he'll skip it.

Fokias - Trying to make Ultima II work, if not, he'll skip it. Don't know if he'll skip Wizardries.

Danna - Playing Ultima II, don't know about Wizardries.

Delvarian & Vanishing - No response, presumably out of the project.

So, 5 days from now on we'll begin Ultima III. If you want to postpone or antecipate the date, just say it waii

I just dropped by and wanted to ask something?

Why the hell is Devil Summoners and Soul Hackers is on that list?

Neither of them wa ever translated from japanese.

And for that matter, the Megami Tensei games weren't either and the first 2 Shin Megami Tensei were poorly translated, the first one bordering on unplayable.
