I was really surprised when I saw this on Steam. I thought it had fallen into vaporware years ago.
I'm actually tempted to get this one. Yet part of me is worried they'll drop support faster than EA would if it doesn't sell well enough.
Huh, looks cool, no money at the moment though.
I remember playing the original mod a whole lot at LAN parties.
Looks good, but my gaming plate is already stacked.
I'm really enjoying it, though I haven't played it for a little while now because I've lost leisure time. From what I've last played they've been ironing out a lot of the bugs though.
Its out now and its pretty awesome from those few matches I played.
Bizarrely enough, the only role where I do not suck utterly is Alien Commander.
Has a compulsive editing and re-editing disorder.Damn, last night me and my cousin were in a really intense game, and one of the rare games where both teams get to max tech level. At one point 2/3rds of the team were in exosuits, and the aliens managed to keep us out of their main hive by massing gorges surprisingly enough. Eventually a massed skulk rush of all things took down the suits, and then our commander sent about 20 ARCs at the enemy base and blew it to Narnia.
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. What you described sounds more like an RTS than an FPS... I like that. How does it actually play, though?
One player is a commander (he becomes one by entering the command center/hive). Said player places buildings, chooses which upgrades and research to unlock and supports players either directly or in-directly with abilities and commander-controlled units (like wall-piercing robot artillery or floating, invisible alien organisms) and directs and tells (or in case of pub matches, tries to direct) all other players, because he has unmatched overview of the battlefield.
All other players are either base marines or base alien lifeforms and play the game like ordinary, objective-based multi player fps, with marines getting better and better weapons, while aliens can evolve into more powerful lifeforms, or evolve abilities for said lifeforms.
In my opinion its probably best multi-player FPS of this year.
Has a compulsive editing and re-editing disorder.Hello all, pretty new to editeding (I mostly "skulked" the random posts of various games and movies.) and after checking out Natural Selection 2 today, I noticed that there really wasn't many tropes listed on the page. It was also incorrectly labled as a FPS (It's a RTS/FPS Hybrid)
Now being new at editing (I only changed like two things before, and most of it was good) I still am pretty worried about missing things up, mislabling tropes, etc. Was wondering if some guys wanted to look over NS 2 and see if can get get more tropes posted onto the page?
Not bad, looks like a pretty good start! Perhaps a description of the guns the Marines use and the fact they fall into the tpyical pistol/rifle/shotgun/sniper etc being the typical FPS game loadout would help to add a couple more tropes?
Currently marines have assault rifles, pistols, shotguns, grenade launches, and flamethrowers, plus exosuits and probably one or two weapons I'm forgetting.
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. What about LM Gs, submachine guns, or sniper rifles?
No, I imagine the reason there aren't snipers is A. because most if not all of the maps take place at fairly close range so that the aliens aren't completely outclassed due to every marine having a ranged attack and B. ...Well idk, it's mainly because most of the maps consist of small, winding corridors. Oh, and marines also can purchase mines to set traps for aliens and start with a hatchet that can be used for melee attacks.

This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.As for LMG weapons, the closet thing marines have are the chainguns on the exosuits, which are an end of tech-tree unlock that gives marines comparable durability to high level alien lifeforms and does hideous amounts of damage, but costs A LOT to build and can't be teleported by commander beacons or phase gates, in addition to having a really slow walking speed.
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. Why would you sniper rifle small critters which's main attacking method is ambushing you stealthily when its not zerg rushing?
And here is the patch release trailer - now with 100% more plush gorges!
Gorgeous update is now life and with it, Natural Selection 2 is 50% off for the weekend, so if you are interested in the game, or were on the fence before, now is pretty good time to try it.
For the record, I recommend NS 2 to pretty much anyone who likes more complex online FPS games.
Has a compulsive editing and re-editing disorder.I must say, I love the dev's sense of humor with the trailers. Belly-slide!
Sad thing is that the game is now even more hungry for specs than before. Lua is evil.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.Natural Selection 2 is 50% off from 21.3 to 24.3 AND you can play it for free during it.
There is no excuse anymore if you were ever interested in playing it.

Coming October 2012.
For those of you unfamiliar with the game, it's a class-based Humans vs. Xemomorphs shooter that originated as a Half Life mod. The sequel will apparently have light RTS as well.
