Space Station 13

I just discovered this game. It is a multiplayer Role Play game. Each player takes on a job. Someone is an engineer, someone as security, another as The Doctor, and even a job for Janitors. Unbeknownst to everyone, there is a traitor in the ranks, and it is their job to sow chaos and steal secrets from the station.

It runs on the Byond engine, and is free to download and play. There are 3 wikis of varying quality and depth: one by 4chan's tg board, one by the people at Something Awful, and one by the people at Bay12.

It's also not that difficult to run a server, so here I am, asking if anyone else is interested in playing on a server hosted by one of us.

Love this game, but I haven't played in a long time.

However It's got a pretty steep learning curve, and lag is an issue on the servers.

This is true. I haven't had a chance to stress test my server since I've only had myself and a friend of mine to test it on.

Of course I completely forgot how to use the completely unintuitive interface, but..

Anyway, I can start up the server for a bit, let anyone who wants to re-familiarize themselves with the controls and the station.

I'm thinking of doing this as strictly an RP server, so no power-gaming unless you're the traitor, (eg if you're an engineer you wouldn't necessarily know how to work the medical scanner, if you're the janitor you wouldn't know how to hack a door, if you're a doctor you aren't a botanist, etc) unless it's previously agreed upon that we have people taking on multiple roles (such as the chef acting as botanist and bartender).

Awesome. If anyone wants me to start up the server, let me know via PM and I'll respond with the IP address.

I'm not going to keep it on for long, though. Only during long-term games.

That's actually one of the strengths, since it all resets from round to round. :D

On the plus side, the makers of SS 13 are now working on a new game: Centration! Currently there's not much to talk about it, however it's going to have the same sort of thing going on as SS 13. Check it out!~

Wasn't someone planning to port SS 13 over to something not requiring BYOND?
