EDIT: That should be Doukokusu, not Koukokusu.

Anyone else heard of this manga? It's written by Yumemakura Baku and drawn by Itoh Sei. I discovered it recently and it's caught my interest. I found all the volumes released so far, but there's one problem, only the first three chapters have been translated, and only the first two have scanlations. It hasn't been officially translated, and it won't be released in English any time soon as far as I can tell. This is clearly a rather obscure manga.

Enough of that though, let me explain the premise. The main character, Shuhei Mikado, wakes up in a cell in research facility. He's suffering from amnesia, and is soon broken out by a woman named Maya Akashi when the facility is attacked by a pack of wild dogs, led by a man-dog hybrid. Mikado finds he has superhuman powers, gaining more animal like traits like fangs when he fights of his assailants. Maya tells Mikado that he is the latest in a series of genetically altered humans, who have had their DNA combined with different types of animals in order to create super soldiers.

And that's as much as I can gather. There seems to be a group of special agents after them, along with other animal soldiers. I believe Mikado's goal is to find out about his past and who he really is. There are many allusions to Buddhist mythology. I think a virus is what is being used to transform people into human hybrids, and it has something to do with a tribe near the Yucatan peninsula. One character that I've managed to identify is Tomoe Hanuma, a white haired monkey girl who reminds me of Aisha from Outlaw Star. I think I'm going to like her.

The series can be quite gorey and there's some nudity, but the action is good and I really like the artwork, though sometimes I think it can be a little too detailed. The bodies of the characters could be rippling with muscles, but their face looks too smooth and simple and it contrasts weirdly. But otherwise, I really wish I could read this, or that someone could translate the series past the first few chapters.

Here's where I got the raw scans from: http://rawscans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=306&start=0

I remember hearing about this from /a/'s One Page Threads (threads where people post a single page from a manga to see if people are interested). It's really a shame no group's translating this, because from the little that there is, it's great stuff.

Currently, the manga has been finished. And translations are available. I love the artist style. He has like an detailed musculature, Contrasted by their Simplistic and expressive nineties styled faces. I think they balanced the seriousness and the humor pretty well. Main character amnesiac is called Mikado Shuhei codename, Kumbahira. Dr. Maya Akashi is the oddly familiar woman he meets upon awaken. The Monkey girl is name Makura. The sadistic tiger girl is named Mihira. There's also a mysterious jungle girl.
