Hey Y'all,

I grew up putting my own gaming rigs together, but several years ago I got tired of lugging a desktop around since the military had me moving around so much, and I got lazy and went over to gaming laptops.

But now I'll be where I'll be for a considerable amount of time, and it's time to go permanent with a desktop again. The problem, however, that I'm having, is that I am absolutely out of touch with what hardware is good now, and what is a good deal for my money.

So I would like to put forth a challenge, to any of our savvy troper shoppers who put their own rigs together. I need your help to pick what I need to build my new PC with, and what sort of features that I may not have heard of are that are awesome.

So essentially, what I want is a tower and all the components(in other words, not counting the monitor/speakers/mouse/keyboard) for between 700-800 bucks. The best possible combination of parts for a high performance gaming rig.

I'm interested in Solid State Drives, and all the talk about how they revolutionize loading times. If they really improve performance in that regard as much as I think, then I probably should get one. But altogether, I want the best possible balance between RAM quantity and quality, video card capability, and processor capability, all for that 7-8 hundred dollar price range.

I'd appreciate the help.

This link helps me a ton.

Feel free to ask specific questions though!

Gaming for the PC right now is kind of getting at a point where thanks to most games being console ports, you don't need super monster rigs to get buy.

My i7 and 6870 (I think) run everything just awesomely.

People say Corsair Vengeance, and I'm sure they're fine cards but I had TWO faulty sticks when I built my rig and it caused me endless trouble.

I had problems with Corsair RAM back in the day too.

Ironically enough, my workhorse RAM were some old Mushkin sticks that sucked ass specs wise but for some reason ran well beyond their capabilities.

So yeah, I got the i7 instead of the i5 due to a deal that my store had, and I'm so glad I did it. It makes a world of difference.

Nothing wrongs slow for me, like ever.

I may well be consulting that google doc in the future. I'm in the market for a new computer since I may as well get something new if I'm going to make another Windows box instead of just reloading my 2 year old laptop that runs fine with Linux with Windows.

I haven't had any problems with Corsair thus far so I don't know what the potential issues are. The shop I was buying from sold more or less everything I needed so I just assumed it all fit together tongue

What's your price range and how much juice are you looking to get out of it?
