I mean, linking with apartheid? I never really learned much about it in American School(usually it's only the civil rights movement).

When I look back at some of these movies, I realize that they had some heavy stuff. I intially thought the movie "Color of Friendship" was just the typical "people of different races meeting", rather than something deeper
Now, many of them seem very gimmicky.
