Is it me, or has Sunset Boulavardez gotten much more overbearing, catty and immature in this revival series? She was much more likable in the original, but here: she's insufferable.
I think they’re trying to show more Not So Above It All in the new series, especially as both her and Randall were trying to live their shattered dreams through Lacienga.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. She did the same shit in the quinceañera episode when she tried to compete with her sister. I get what you’re saying about the Not So Above It All trope that the show is trying to convey, but man are some of these characters becoming so unlikable here.
I still love this show though.

Sugar momma is still the worst from I can tell.
New theme music also a boxI understand that, but at least Suga Mama has always been like that even in the original series. It feels betraying when it's from characters that usually aren't jerks.
For me it's like La Cienega has always been a brat, so it makes some sense that her parents are jerks too. I haven't seen Season 2 yet (just some adorable clips of Bebe) so maybe Sunset has taken too many levels of jerkass this time.

How was Sunset like in the original show?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."In the original show, it felt much more like a "Wacky Spouse/Serious Spouse" dynamic with Trudy and Sunset as the no nonsense ones to Oscar and Felix, but that's honestly really boring. I'm glad they're giving Sunset more to do and I wish they'd do the same for Trudy.

That is a good thing yeah, the whole "wacky fun husband/serious dull wife" is an archaic archetype that deserves to permanently put to bed
Now if only Trudy could be given more to do so she'd be a fun character like her husband
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Fitting with how they view teaching people about actual history as “spreading hate”.
I mean, are they just tuning out stuff like the episode with the Pakistani family? Y'know, the one where said Pakistani family's house got vandalized? Because even when I wasn't as aware about racism when it came out, that just lives rent-free in my head when I look back on the OG show.
It's actually kinda bonkers how they can just tune out that kind of imagery like it was nothing. Jerks.
Or the Martin Luther King episode where they bluntly pointed out Penny and Zoey would not have been allowed to go to school together or be friends during segregation? And then the kids rise up and protest this? There were plenty of proud family episodes that delved into racism and other serious topics.

In the newest installment of the "How NOT to Draw" series, it seems Sugar Mama's giving the artist more of a hard time than usual (which is saying something).

Okay so it seems like the colorism episode, End of Innocence, has been gaining some notoriety for completely bungling the message and making Penny's group the absolute worst.
Which considering how often the group turns on and backstabs each other, its pretty telling.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Uh well basically a famous teen actor goes to school and everyone is going gaga over him until he asks out Zoey to the absolute shock and horror of the group. The girls then ostracize and treat Zoey horribly, with La Cienega outright calling Zoey ugly.
While there is the thing of the actor Noah preferring white girls, its only outright proven at the end of the episode. So most of the episode is the group bullying and separating based on nothing more than suspicion, gossip, as well as their own jealously over the heartthrob asking out Zoey instead of anyone else.
Surprisingly Penny gets in on this, joining in on the mistreatment of Zoey despite generally being the reasonable one.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie.""And that's how you draw Sug-"
"You think you done? Ha! Not without my baby."
(*artist draws Oscar's head*)
"Sugar Mama?"
"No! Not that baby."
(*Sugar Mama tosses Oscar's head into a sticky note*)
Excuse me, I need to call a doctor, my sides are splitting like crazy.
I think Zoey was the wrong character to use for a story about colorism, that usually doesn't involve white people.
This episode works better if you give Zoey's role to Penny (ignore that she has a boyfriend for a second) and make Dijonay the focus.
I think it works fine if they had more credible source(Aka not just Maya hearing a rumor) AND if the girls problems was with the boy in question, not placing the blame on Zoey.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Yeah there were a lot of ways they could have handled this better. Amusingly Noah's introduction has him ignoring the more conventionally attractive white girl to ask out Zoey, who is also the only person in the cafeteria not going gaga over him. Which ironically gives him an impression of him being less shallow as he could just be into nerdy girls or people who don't throw themselves at him right in his face like what the girls were doing.
Thats maybe the funniest part of the episode, the show not realizing the girls themselves are engaging in colorism as Penny and Djonay are perfectly fine dumping their dark-skinned boyfriends for the much lighter skinned Noah. And no one points this out, with Kareem and Darious just being good silent boytoys patiently waiting until Penny and Djonay decides to go out with them again.
Poor guys, they deserve better girlfriends.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."After watching season 2 of this reboot, Sunset has become my most hated character. It’s to the point that I like her daughter and Dijonay over her. All Sunset does is live vicariously through Lacienega. I dislike parents like that.
I think it's because Michael has a different voice actor and short of the Chang Triplets he had the biggest redesign.
