Justice Avengers: Dawn over New York

As Nightcrawler beheld the wonders of New York from above, his pointy ears might have picked up a distant, high-pitched ringing sound. Far down on the streets below, a convenience store had its front window shattered in, and a man in a ski mask and heavy jacket was pointing a trembling gun at the counter, where a normally kindly east-asian man was now hurriedly emptying the tills. Yes, New York was Kurt's home now, with all that that entailed.

Ms Grey picked up on Paige's excitement, and no doubt Laura expressed an interest as well. "Great! Well, first things first, let me show you where you'll be eating." She lead the two through into the formal dining room, which was as fancy an affair as the rest of the house with glass chandeliers above, and a lengthy table through the centre circled with comfortable chairs. Of course, this was slightly undercut by the smaller tables and chairs of subtly lesser quality inserted into the corners of the room.

Next was the kitchen in the next room, a cosy little place lined with wooden pantries, with a great big old fashioned stove taking up a large part of the wall. There were also a couple of tables with chairs here as well. "We try to shift things around on a daily basis, so that everyone gets a chance to eat in both rooms," Ms Grey explained. "Some students prefer the window seats here, though."

Finally, the three went out the other door, arriving in the main foyer once more. Ms Grey went to the elevator and pushed the button. "All right," she said, "The special training facility is in the second sub-basement, so we'll spend a bit of time down there, then work our way up through the floors for the remainder of the tour." She looked over her shoulder. "Are you ready?"

Kurt heard what was going on, and teleports towards it. Once he reached the ground level, he saw a man in a ski mask pointing a gun at someone. A robbery. Kurt wasn't sure what he should do really. It wasn't his business, but at the same time, the Lord said that you must help those in need. And the east-asian man was in need.

Kurt teleported next to the man with the ski mask, and swung his tail, trying to wrap it around his hand with the gun. If he could disarm him, there might not a need for the sword he had strapped underneath his coat, out of sight.

Hellfire Club Mansion

Access swallowed. The 'men in black' at the entrance looked tough! He had to reassure himself that hey, he had powers, if things really got bad he could always teleport them to the Gobi Desert. OK, maybe not there. Maybe Hawaii.

And Rogue was there too. She too could take them down if needed. But right now they were supposed to talk their way in, he assumed. Again, Rogue should handle that.

Suddenly, he felt something odd, nearby. Someone's teleporting! he thought. Could it be the teleporter he battled during the assault at the Hero Ball? He almost decided to go and check, except he could not just ditch Rogue now.

Rocket ran on all fours to find the back of the building, and from there a possible way of entry.

"Pyko, try to get me a map of the building layout as well as the safest point of entry," he said to Pyko over the comms.

"Got it!" the tortoise responded.

Rogue, Hellfire Club Mansion

When Rogue was barred from entering by the two bouncers, she stepped a bit back from the two.

"Um, yes," Rogue began, trying to look and sound like a normal student. "I am doing an essay on the Hellfire Club, and I'd like to interview some members for it."

Rogue had an inkling that the two bouncers were not going to buy it, but she had known it was a long shot anyway.

Mary Marvel—Construction Site—With Haweye.

Mary landed in front of Haweye, giving her, the archer her full attention.

"That's ok." She looked the archer heroine at the eyes. "I think it's fine for bad guys not to like us. That just means we're doing something right." She closed her eyes and then she smiled to Kate.

Her problem with the arrows make her ponder. The wisdom of Solomon made their dilemma more clear.

"Maybe being attached by them isn't so bad," Mary told her with a finger on her chin. " If they do , everyone will see that Godfrey isn't a nice person." She suggested.

Construction Site

Hawkeye grinned. "Engineered public confession? That could work. Godfrey can't be beat with logic because he operates by appealing to people's fears. If he's going to go down, he needs to go down hard and in front of as big an audience as possible.

"What did you have in mind, Mary?"

Paige nodded, almost bouncing on her toes. Special training? Did they have kickboxing or one of those rock walls? How did you train someone who could fly, or read minds? Was it VR (she didn't really understand what VR was, exactly, but it sounded futuristic)?

She risked shooting a glance at Laura. The other girl clearly had some serious issues going on. Hopefully this training wouldn't trip any of the bells in her head, and fighting a fellow student might not create the best impression with the Professor. On the other hand, maybe that was the whole point; had Sam had to go up against any of the kids outside? Once again, her head was filled with questions and nervous chatter, but she managed to push it down, stop her hands from picking at her skin, and stepped up to the elevator beside Ms. Grey. Once more into the breach, she thought.

Mary Marvel—With Kate—The wisdom of Solomon.

"I've seen him on TV. Our friends act weird when he is behind cameras." Memories came to he when Tony Stark acted crazy on his talk show. Mary had complete faith in her friends. She refused to believe Iron Man would be so rude (willingly). Thanks to the wisdom of Solomon, she knew something was off. Even if she couldn't tell exactly what was it.

"If we talk to him when he is off guard, off-air, we might be able to record him being his real self without him knowing. Then we can show it on the internet."

Then she remembered about the heroes being chase by Morgan Edge's minions " and about those guards chasing you. —Let's try to make them come, if they do, everyone will see Morgan for who he is,"

She then looked at Kate determined" What do you think?"

Kate grinned. "I'm ready. Though I should probably stop by my place and arm myself if I want to contribute more than moral support."

Mary—Construction Site

"Sure," Mary gave her a smile. " Do you want me to take you? I can fly you there" She offered while giving her her hand." Or I can come with you if you want." She turned around to see if they were still being chased, " It could be dangerous."

"Funny you should ask. Director Fury has one particular subject in mind." Hill forwarded a video clip, showing a young woman in the middle of a SHIELD training room. She wore a strange outfit with large mechanical gauntlets and neck brace, had short-cropped dark brown hair, bore a passing resemblance to Angelina Jolie, and was currently in the middle of rupturing the earth itself. One by one, focused cracks of earth went shooting at training dummies, which were then sent sailing into the air with great spikes of rock.

"Daisy Johnson, codenamed Quake. Doesn't actually have the x-genome, but was nevertheless born with seismic abilities, and a prodigious talent for computer hacking. We found her around three years ago, wasting her talents shoplifting and attacking SHIELD databases as part of a two-bit hacktivist group that has since faded into obscurity. Following extraction and interrogation, the Director took a special interest in her, recruiting her and personally handling her training."

The bouncers showed no signs of skepticism, but didn't exactly show any friendliness either.

"Members only, miss."

"No exceptions."

Meanwhile, Pyko's scan picked up a couple of possible entry points. A chimney or two, with no signs of heat or smoke yet, and a large skylight smack bang in the middle of the room.

Nightcrawler's attack took the robber by surprise, but the criminal put up a fight. Spluttering startled expletives, he played tug-of-war with his snagged hand, and tried to take a swing with his other fist.

Nightcrawler quickly pulled the crook's arm with his tail, and jumped, trying to unbalance the armed thug, while also using his training as an acrobat to steer clear of the fist. He needed to disarm the thug first, and then hopefully he could talk to him, get him to calm down.

Weighing his options, Rocket decided to go down one of the chimneys. As invitingly easy the skylight sounded, he did not wish the room the skylight to be above to an area with lots of traffic, and thus easier for him to be spotted. He went to one, checked to see if he would actually fit through, and then carefully climbed down.....

Convenience Store—Manhattan

After talking with Kate, Mary waited until she would stock her arrows.

She was flying in the sky until a noise from a convence stirs caught her attention. She landed in front of the store before walking slowly towards the entrance.

"Is everything alright?" She asked.

To say Kurt was surprised would have been a small understatement. A superheroine had just shown up. Kurt knew that America was famous for them, but he hadn't expected one to arrive this fast. Still, he might as well make a good first impression.

"Yes! Everything is under control here! Danke for asking!" He smiled, and winked at the girl, while still struggling with the thug.

Kate's Apartment

As it turned out, wherever Hawkguy was, he apparently didn't think to bring most of his stuff, so Kate now had an extra bow and a quiver full of trick arrows. His loss.

She attached a pair of battle staves to her belt; this time, she'd be prepared if she lost her bow.

She exited the building. Mary said she'd be around, but Kate didn't see her. The archer figured she'd wait until the heroine returned - until she heard the alarm of a nearby convenience store blaring.

Figuring she could at least check it out, she darted to the convenience store. Mary was there, along with a masked gunman and a fuzzy blue demonic-looking guy.

She grabbed an arrow at random from her quiver and aimed it at the robber. "I'm not entirely sure what this arrow does, but it probably blows stuff up. You might want to surrender."

Kurt's little display was incredibly successful, as the thug went tumbling face first on the ground and the gun danced and skidded across the floor to the edge of the exit. When the crook got back to his feet, he was greeted by an arrow aimed at his head. "A'right, a'right, I give!" The crook scrambled onto his knees with his hands up. "I give, okay? Just don't do nothin', okay, what'll it take f'you to let me go free?" He looked over at Nightcrawler, wide-eyed and sweaty. "You want my soul? 'cause I mean, I...I don't think I got it on me right now- b-but I swear I'm good for it!"

Clambering down the chimney, Rocket gradually started to hear the sounds of activity. Specifically, there was the sound of hoity-toity laughter, the sound of a string quartet and the sound of clinking glasses not so far away. The fireplace opened into a wide, expansive room, chandelier and all, where a relatively small gathering of silver-haired old money types were milling about, champagne in hand, merrily gossiping about the economy, their status symbols, and the whining of the underclass.

Convenience Store

Kurt was shocked. He knew he looked like a devil, but why would this man ask such a thing? "Your....soul? Why would I want your soul?" he asked the thug.

Mary Marvel––Convenience Store

As Mary entered the building she was able to spot Hawkeye using a bow against the thug and then the voice of a blue being that caught her attention.

The situation didn’t seem bright for Kurt at first.

Some people would immediately think he was a monster by his mere apereance or by the mere fact he was scaring a civilian. But Mary knew that true evil didn’t came from scary faces, but from tainted hearts, the orphanage had taught her that.

“The fight is over;we’re not going to hurt you. Please don’t be scared,” she told the thug.

Rocket looked out into the large room, upside down from his point of view as he scanned the place from the opening where the smoke came through the chimney, glancing from all the snooty rich folk going on and on about their insignificant lives. He saw a good hiding place in a nearby couch, and the raccoon flipped around as he landed softly onto the floor of the fireplace, gently with no sound. He ran towards the couch and shot forward on his rocket skates.

The only sound as a zipping noise, but those in the room that actually noticed would have brushed it off as a random sound from the string instruments.

From under the couch, Rocket peaked out from underneath, keeping low and doing his best to ignore the smells from his hiding place. As he simultaneously looked for something incriminating and a way out, he turned on the recording functions of his computer, trying to see if there would be anything the old money would say that would hint at the Inner Circle......

Convenience Store

"This is what happens," Peter muttered to himself as he swung onto the scene a minute or two late, "When you have to stop and call your aunt and tell her you're at the library." So there was a blue demon dude on their team now. That was cool.

SHIELD HQ

"Sounds useful," Coulson mused as he stroked his chin. "Bring her in. I'd like to speak with her."

"Well, eh- I don't know! I mean you got th...and the t..." He motioned to indicate Nightcrawlers tail, ears and teeth. "I mean, do I got it backwards? You want me to go to church? I don't know how it works w-"

The robber took a few deep breaths and slowly got to his feet. "Okay...I think I'm good...I just wa-" Then he broke into a run, shoving past Mary and bolting out the door.

There was were a couple of doors on the far edges of the room. The closest to Rocket was a fair distance away from the couch, with no cover save for a grandfather clock against the wall. On the opposite wall, there was a short corridor, around the corner from a huge renaissance painting, where at least one woman in a silver dress was hurrying off to. Finally, there was the door between a couple of gorgeous flower displays, at the top of a short flight of concentric circular steps where another bouncer was standing just to the left. Meanwhile, there were plenty of conversation threads to pick and choose from about the room.

"...and the taragon jus, oh! Simply exquisite."

"...quite a bit of trouble getting that bill passed, and I don't need to tell..."

'"...dreadful decor, and then of course there's the matter.."

"...Luthor's little upset last night. Although that ghastly excuse for a ball couldn't..."

"...planning on having a new swimming pool brought in. Do you think it wouldn't..."

"...Oh my word, do behave, Mr Sta..."

'"...must say, Osborn's been in the back room for quite some time, now hasn't he?"

He ran riiight into Spider-Man's line of sight.

"Yeah," Peter said casually as he shot a web at the robber's ankles, "That's gonna be a nope."

Kurt was about to teleport after the crook when what looked like a spider tripped him up. He teleported over anyway, looking for the source, and saw Spider Man. He smiled. "You! I know who you are! Spider Man, right?"
