[up][up]Well, if the point of this particular reboot was to draw in new readers (the usual reason I hear whenever a reboot happens), then having 50+ titles, many of which focus on unknowns that new readers will not likely have heard of, and will thus have no incentive to try, is not a good idea to my ears.

But hey, at least they're trying to keep some of their alternative universe material (questionable as the quality of some of it may be), and not trying to erase it completly like DC.

Well, I saw the un-brainwashing as simply killing off the evil opposite.

Mary's case was slightly different than the others ( even her coming back to normal was different) for a secret reason only Liz knows.wink

@ Sijo

I agree with you, those are the biggest reasons I don't read comics.

It seems to me that they rely way too much on gimmicks ( Thor is a girl!, superman uses a motorcycle!, Captain marvel is a jerk!) than good storytelling.

Comic companies would draw more readers if they stopped doing so many amateur/ fanfic like ideas to appeal to adult male readers. Depicting heroines as sex objects comes to mind, with Starfire being one of the worst victims.

[up]Am I the only one whose perfectly fine with Thor being replaced with a girl?

I mean, it's not like he's not around, he's still alive and we know for a fact he'll get his hammer back, that's actually something we've know in universe. Wasn't there a team up with a future him who had his hammer that happened after female Thor was a thing? So we know for a fact that he get's it back? This is nothing but a temporary story line, and we this is known both in and out of the story.

Hell, it's not like she's the first person to take his title, there is a horse ant alien Thor, there's the dude with the ponytail/rat trap, there's the frog.

Surely, a woman is not somehow worse then all three of those. It's not even any more gimmicky than a lot of well liked Thor stories.

Wait, time out, Superman has a motorcycle? What?

@ Sijo Yeah, most of that sound dumb. Granted, I actually think Superman's explosion thing is sort of nifty and hope it sticks around, I just don't think it makes sense for him to use it in almost any circumstance seeing as it drains his powers for like three days. In my view I'm fine with it being a thing, I just don't think it should be used outside of very bizarre circumstances.

I am not really against female Thor, just against gimmicky ideas for shock value to draw new readers.

And yeah the new superman uses a motorcycletongue.

No.

I read that wrong.

You can't have just said that Superman rides a motorcycle. Did you mean to type Superboy? I could see that.

Seriously, what? I need more info.

[up]What's the motorcycle explanation?

To clarify I don't mind writers changing the status quo to experimnt and I am sure female Thor is awesome ( probably a bad example ) But I think the mere fact we know female thor is temporal hurts her more as a character.

My real issue is that instead of people buying the next comic for this amazing story arch or to solve that cliffhanger they want us to buy it because of silly reasons like look Tony stark isn't iron man! or the joker doesn't have a face!

From what I hear, it was Lois Lane who exposed him. Don't ask me why. > <

Look, I'm not against reboots. I remember way back after The Crisis, being very excited about how DC was going to reinvent their characters. And for the most part, it worked! Take Superman: He no longer had been Superboy, but his human parents were now alive! He no longer could push planets, but now villains didn't need kryptonite to fight him! Luthor wasn't a supervillain, but he was a corrupt executive! All of these changes were full of story potential, and indeed were used very well! But Biker Superman? That sounds like some writer came up to DC and said, "Hey can I do Superman as a gang biker?" and they said, "Sure!" *rolls eyes* Similarly, Marvel's post- Secret Wars changes (keeping in mind we know the bare minimum of course) sound pretty iffy to me.

Oh btw, I should point out that they're borrowing the same gimmick from the original Secret Wars: they are revealing the changes before the miniseries ends, in order to get people to wonder, "How did THAT happen?" and presumably boost interest in the series.

...Except that it turns out that ALL the post-SW titles begin EIGHT MONTHS after the series. Which means at least some of those (such as Spider-Woman getting pregnant) could happen in the time between. Kind of a cop-out.

OK, I'm back and will get some posts in. Uncandescent, what you've said is fine, just post all of that at once and then I'll rush Firefly along. As the cosmic game seems to be approaching (I'm fine being surprised on that front) I also have an idea.

Would it be alright to play Saint Walker with the mind gem? It's a pretty powerful object (especially if we're doing an assembling Infinity plot) but he's not really the type to abuse it. Also, would it be fine if I made the Blue Lanterns a much more obvious peacekeeping organisation? Compared to the comics, they would have stronger defense powers and be more well-established, having many generic background members. They would still have the mutual boost when working with Green Lanterns, although it would now be justified by them discouraging violence on their own and having a strict policy of working with G Ls when they are forced into fighting. I might also say that the boost can be activated by some kinds of magic as well, which is just a happy accident but from an writing perspective might integrate them into the wider 'verse a little better. Would all that be alright?

@Cosmic game

I want to be surprised toosmile. Also I would like to try my hand with the star sapphires lore. Love is my favorite emotion.

I'm seriously considering playing queen aga'po of the Zamarons or Carol in a redemption quest.

Yeah, it was Lois whodunnit. They haven't actually shown why yet, but she's all on the defensive about it. Can't quite recall why Supes is so sapped of power, but for some reason they're having him be more typically super-strong. Not even as powerful as the average locomotive, which is silly.

Supes being exposed and on the run is one thing, but I can't really get behind this Jason-Bourne-On-Miraclo shtick. Now, Commissioner Gordon becoming the new Batman and a bunch of teens forming a gang of Robins? That has story potential, I think (Even if Gordon does look more like a Mecha-Bunny).

Tenebrous: I was considering giving Blue Lanterns more oomph, yeah. Maybe letting them have healing powers and telekinesis through their rings when there aren't any Green Guys about. Also, more guys in the Star Sapphires. Quick question, though: how would Walker having the mind gem link to the Blue Lanterns?

Also, to anyone who previewed the JA Multiverse, do any of you have any comments pertinent enough to PM me with?

I actually like the explosion power. I don't think it'll come up much, mostly because he's really powerful and there isn't a lot of problems he can't solve with his powers in a quick enough time frame that makes a giant explosion that saps his powers for a while a better choice.

One thing I like about it is that I'm just amazed it actually made it into the comics. For those who don't know it, just like Jimmy Olsen, I believe Perry White, and I think at least one if not more of his powers, his explosion power first appeared in a radio show. Oddly enough, not even an official one, a fan radio show. I think it was from Pendant Audio. A friend of mine has some of the episodes and I've started listening lately, it's pretty good so far. Shame it's been completly torn down from the internet.

So, you know what, yeah. If this power has somehow made it all the from a fan radio show to the official comics I think it might stick around. Stuff from the radio shows seem to stay relevant surprisingly long.

Regarding Walker having the mind gem: I was thinking that Adara could have brought it to him after somebody else tried assembling the gems, the power resonating with its hope, and Walker vowing to keep it out of the wrong hands. The mind powers would interact with the ring's, letting him channel hope from great crowds of people. I could easily change how he got it to fit your plans better though.

That works for me! smile Other Lantern Corps/Infinity Gems combinations could be:

  • Red/Power- Because when you are angry, you want to hit your foes as hard as possible.
  • Orange/Time- when you want to steal *everything* manipulating time would be VERY useful.
  • Yellow/Reality: What better way to turn your foes' fears into reality?
  • Green/Soul: OK, this is more iffy, but the Soul Gem is "vampiric" and it takes a strong will to hold in check. The Oans would probably be more concerned with keeping it off the wrong hands.
  • Violet/Space: We have seen the Zamarons teleporting potential members and their lovers around. This would help.
  • Indigo/Ego: They have a sinister agenda of forced reformation. This would help (or control them.)
