Bumping for watchlisters: Here's a rough map I worked up. It shows the Landing Zone, Missile Site, and Armor Plant. Well, at least it shows the letters for those places, centered on the point.

Alright, thanks. Geography will be important, but I suppose I can just figure out what island this is with Google Maps.

Oh, I thought I said it in the RP. Here's a link with the name, since I don't know how to write accents on this keyboard.

I'm still working on figuring out what the two locations themselves look like. I have to be careful when Googling "Military base schematics" on the same day I look up "Launch Silos"[lol]

Ooops. tongue

Anyway, thanks. This should help, though unfortunately for us this looks like I can't exploit the terrain against radar—it's pretty flat, albeit forested. This is gonna suck.

What size were the "Gatling" Gun rounds again? Anything 50Cal and up (which im sure these are) can fit explosives or incendiary components and such.

Sure. We could make the Gattling gun a .50 cal and the machine gun just 7.62mm if you'd like to imagine it that way.

I was thinking more like 20mm-30mm and .50 for the big and small

Gatling Guns in this setting, unlike actuall large gatling guns (like the Vulcan) fire slower than normal machine guns, so they would need rather large shells to justify them being "Heavy Only"

The important part is the large shells mean you could make some specialized payloads.

Anyways, Millers Gatlings use rounds with a DU (Tungesten if Uranium is too costly) penetrator at the core with zirconium powder packed around it and a bead of thickened TEA at the head.

Wouldn't that effectively make them autocannons instead of gatling guns?

[up] Yes, but they way Nman describes them thats EXACTLY what they are. IRL rotary weapons fire fast wheras these fire slowly and use large shells.

"Gatling Gun: Like the machine gun, but shoots bigger bullets, less often."

Slower than a machien gun but more powerful and larg eneough that Light Mechs cant carry them.

Although the specfic type of ammunition im describing could also fit into a .50 (as an aside, is anyone aware of any rotary multiebarrel weapons larger than 30mm?) round.

Oh, sorry. I have an excuse this time, though, as I was trying to thump out a quick post in the morning on a phone, because I'm that cool.cool

Anyway, yeah, 30mm was what we had decided on earlier, I misread that you wanted a .50 cal, and figured I could make it work, but it's much easier this way.

As for the name... well, technically I guess both would be Gatling-type guns, because I figured that a mech is a lot bigger than a man, and a lot smaller than an airplane, so the machinegun would be beefier version of the M134, while the Gatling gun would basically be a GAU-8 with a lot of shrinking, shortcuts, and sacrifices. If you want to just rename the bigger one to "auto cannon" instead, we can do that.

Also - I had intended the railgun artillery to basically be an energy-version of a cannon, but it just hit me that there's no actual cannons. Would you guys be interested in me adding an ammo-based heavy artillery piece, like a Long Tom-esque gun that you can strap to a mech?

And remember, you almost always change your mech's gear before a mission. The only time you won't be able to change it is on the mission. Though there might be a mission down the line where you can pick up new weapons or whatever, who knows.

So...a mech-scale Anti-Material Rifle? Hey...like the Gungnir in Trenched (Iron Brigade). I wouldnt mind having the option around.

I wonder how powerful those mech-chainsaws are.

It would basically be like firing the big railgun three times in a row or whatever seems good. It would still be an anti-emplacement weapon, so I don't know if comparing it to a sniper rifle is the best fit. It would be very accurate against stationary targets, but slightly less so against something going very fast in random directions. Same as the big railgun.

As for the chainsaw, while you won't be cutting battleships in half, it's pretty tough. If something gets close enough for a heavy mech to use the chainsaw, the most likely reason for it not being destroyed would be if it's too fast to hit, or if it's a very heavy tank and for some reason you decide to saw through the front armor.

Question: is Levi and Teferi's relationship a private or public matter?

Private. They aren't making an effort to conceal familiarity but at most, you'd probably guess they have a business history together. At very least, you'd guess that they weren't strangers.

Given that Teferi's less than amused by his sea sickness and this is the first you've seen of the two, I imagine first impressions would be that they aren't exactly close and there might be a bit of tension.

Alright, for the ammo-based artillery, I'm thinking of this:

  • Cannon: Fires a large-caliber round that can punch through structures and can warp even the toughest armor. (3 turns of ammo)

Also, wrote up four units from WWII and the 40's that you might encounter, but might not. Plus, there's always the chance of running into "X weapon mounted onto a truck." Any thoughts before I finalize them?

  • Gorrila Suit: A Chinese Power Armor design based off of Edison tech. Its actual name is nigh-unpronouncable to westerners, so it is nicknamed after the guerillas who tend to use the outdated suits. As it is mostly an anti-infantry suit, it can only shake off small arms fire with a low rate of fire, and stops a sniper round in the torso. The soldier also has some resistance to explosive overpressure waves, letting them survive nearby detonations. The helmet safeguards from flashbangs, and has thermal and night vision capabilities. The right arm has an anti-infantry 5.7mm gun (assume that it does effectively no damage against armor). The only real threat to a warwalker comes from the left arm. A light grenade launcher is mounted on it(2 turns of ammo), as well as a plasma torch that can be used to cut through steel and composites.

  • Tiger: Conveniently, the Germans made a tank with nearly the same name and specifications as the Tiger II heavy tank from our universe (without the crippling mechanical problems). Has an 88mm main gun (can fire once per turn) and a pair of tri-barreled 7.92mm machineguns (3 turns of ammo each). The badass alternate universe factor means that composite materals allow it to be fully armored, including a 200mm-equivalent glacis on front, but it's only about 45 tons, which lets it go up to 40 miles per hour.

  • W-36: A lightweight walker, one of Russia's earliest attempts to make a legged weapons platform during WWII. Stands ten feet tall and its crew of three is cramped in the cockpit.* Equiped with a mortar (3 turns of ammo), flamethrower, and a machinegun (2 turns of ammo).

  • Youshì-type: A chinese walker based on the W-36. Only has two weapons equipped: an ion machinegun and a single-use missile launcher (launches 8 missiles at once, though).

So if you feel like changing your loadout because of any new information, just do it in-character by talking to a tech (after the current meeting) or since it's the first mission we can just retcon it, since your mechs aren't even in the game yet.

And if any of you have ideas for a unit, you can always post them or PM them.

Sorry, I've got real life distractions and a bad case of writer's block.

You know that thing where thinking about something makes you mad, but even though it makes you mad you just can't seem to stop thinking about it?

Yeah, I've kind of had that going all day, and it's currently the big cause of said writer's block.

This is a quick copy paste I'm doing in all the discussion threads of RPs I'm in. I was hoping to get some serious posting done tonight in multiple RPs, some of which I outright said I planned to do.

Unfortunately, I just became the victim of a sudden and rapid onset of a painful physical issue. It's not serious, (At least I really, really, really hope it isn't.) but it was rather painful and still smarts even now. This has done to my drive to post what many a baseball bat has done to the kneecaps of people who owed money to the mob.

Now, I don't have any more work this week, so I'm staying up as late as I want tonight and might get some posting done later before bed. In any case, I apologize for the delay on my part.

With any luck I'll be back to normal by tomorrow, but in the meantime, I'm gonna try and find some painkillers and do my best to distract this pain away.

Faux doesn't strike me as the sort to completely drop, so I'm guessing he's just held up by something. That said - we've already had a few hangups, so unless he posts something soonish, I think I might have to just post something about Tefari not wanting to be squad leader, assigning that task to Karina (or Robert, if he wants to challenge?) and then figuring it out from there. We'll have to handwave it as Tefari having to fill out a ton of forms when he gets back, and if Faux's still not back during the mission, I supposed I can assign his mech to a sort of semi-invisible "support" role where we acknowledge that the mech is there, helping in the battle, but we're not specifying exactly what it does.

Or we can just wait. Up to you. I know I won't drop this RP, but I don't want to risk having four of you drop waiting for one person.

Also, even if it is just a quick copy-paste and you probably aren't going to read this until you're okay anyway, I might as well still say "Get better, Firock".

Also, I had a suspicion that you were waiting on me to write something, Stormthorn, so if I'm wrong, I can always take that second part out.

And I added the cannon to the list of stuff.

Okay, so I'm guessing from the context that Chubert and Stormthorn don't want to change loadouts, Wysp only wanted to change the stealth thing, Firock hasn't had a chance to post after the change of command, and then Rabbit and Faux are AWOL. I think we can go ahead and start the mission once Firock posts and Chu/Storm confirm that's what they want*

, and hopefully one* the others will have come back by then.
