Of course it's about science. Disney had to program at least 3 new software features to make this movie. Entertainment is all about technological breakthroughs now. Nerds control animation now.
I have to wait an extra week for it to come out here. Guh.

EDIT: that sucks. Everyone make sure you use spoiler tags appropriately.

I'll see if my family wants to watch it... >_>
i think i mostly want to see what happens when this whole place breaks apartI'm dragging my Mom to see it with me, but since we had a major death in the family a month ago I'll be bringing a LOT of tissues.
...this may not be my brightest idea.
i. hear. a. sound.I was led to believe it would be out at the same time, but I may have read IMDB wrong. Oh well, one week won't kill me as long as y'all tag your shit.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectSome of the people who worked on the movie are coming to my university to talk about it on Friday and one of the theaters will be doing some kind of special airing but I'll be in class while that's going down so I can't see the movie until the end of the month at the earliest. At least I can make the talk though.

So general consensus seems to be Hiro and Baymax are just endearing as any other Disney character and the action, while short, is on par with fight scenes from The Incredibles and Marvel Studios work's (notably Captain America The First Avenger). The animation looks photo real and the drama is more intense than any previous recent Disney animated film.
The only downside seems to be that people wish more screentime was dedicated to the rest of the team. Oh well- it really is Hiro and Baymax's film.
awesome

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectApparently, Robyn from Pop Sectrum is wholly against the changes made to the casts' races and the changes made from the comic. ... there are so many things I could say to them about how they shouldn't be complaining, I don't know where to start...

Against every change?
They can't possibly believe the movie ever would have been made as a direct adaptation so long as Disney was behind it, can they?
People on Tumblr - Tumblr mind you - who have seen the movie have said that there's nothing to really get upset about when it comes to representation, especially when it comes to women in scientific fields.
An argument can be made that they could have taken the comic's icky, stereotypical representation of Asian people and simply kept the 'Asian' without the 'icky, stereotypical' part, but clearly Disney felt they needed MORE distance from the source material.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI'm hard pressed to see any complaining about anything "representation" with this movie as anything more than people complaining for the sake of complaining because they're the kind of people who are never happy unless they have something to complain about.

Robyn and her posse strike me as one of those unknowledgable fans who haven't experienced or understood how businesses work. This is Disney. Anything they took and adapted from were/are always mangled to the point where Disney pretty much owns it once they make a movie out of it.

No point complaining about complaining, guys. Everyone has a point of view.
I will say however, that if Wasabi had been left Asian, good LORD, that would have been a terrible name for him. I'm not sure anyone would have been fine with that.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectNot to mention that the current licensing issues means that some of the characters were legally prohibited from being in the movie in the first place.
Guess that means that if you care about such things, it's a loose-loose situation all around.

Of course, they're taking from the Chris Claremont run, which is basically the current cast of characters anyway. Silver Samurai? Fuggedaboutit.
A Japanese character with such a stereotypical name would never fly in today's environment for sure.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAn all-Japanese cast (animated- the voice actors do not all need to be Japanese) may sound like a good break from normal Hollywood fare and would actually be more realistic, but because it's Disney, they need to have this movie appeal and reach to as many audiences as possible, and that means including a more varied cast. There are good reasons why they couldn't simply take Japan as the actual setting. For one, Japan is the least ethnically-diverse country on the planet- they are pretty much all-Japanese. The country in real life has too many differences to the point where Americans wouldn't completely understand the culture, as well as other countries.
I have absolutely no problems with the changes Disney made, except for one thing: the city name change. ..... San Fran-SSSO-kyo? Really??? Even a 6-year-old taking her first geography course can get that there was no effort put into the new name whatsoever!
Representation isn't (if you'll pardon my pun) black and white. Some folks are mad at Hiro being changed to biracial, while some biracial folks I've heard from are thrilled about it. Some folks wonder why they couldn't keep the cast Asian, while others posit that if they did, they would just be perpetuating the 'Asians are geniuses' stereotype. It's never quite so simple as we like to think.
The Last Airbender movie has no real excuse though. Because seriously.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectOf all the stereotypes out there, "genius" hardly seems like one to make a major fuss about.

No one really likes to be thought of in just one way, I guess. More average-intelligence Asians in movies!
