The producers have made it clear that this will not take place in the canon Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel agreed to that.

I am enjoying the fact that Big Hero 6 shares the same relative "first Friday of November" date as Wreck It Ralph did. Perfect time to release a family film after the horror season ends

Yeah, when people have no faith in said films whatsoever. The first two months are usually seen as dumping grounds for less than quality movies.
