Was too busy moving to fetch the rankings, and my new place doesn't have internet yet. I'll post them when I can.

Buddy Strike comes off to me as the least original manga to show up in WSJ for a while. Something just bugs me about it being about baseball (which, correct me if I'm wrong, is the most commonly-covered sport in manga) and it being written by the author of Cross Manage.

Having read the first chapter, however, it is a vast improvement over Cross Manage, if you ask me though. Maybe it's because it's got a harder edge to it, or maybe it'd because it's paced much faster than Cross Manage. I see promise in it, but it's got a lot of tough competition with other baseball series.

Still, it feels like a Sports Manga: Second Attempt by KAITO. Lacrosse was pretty off the beaten path; if he wanted to do another sports manga, I would've preferred if he did something else not commonly covered in manga, like bowling or curling or something of the sort.

Well, Cross Manage was great. I can see why it would fail with Jump's audience though. Kind of obscure sports, main guy takes a back seat, while the girls do the heavy lifting. Not exactly what little and teenage boys look for.

This one feels a lot more Jump-like, but also more generic. It's like the author chooses "what sells" rather than originality. It's not necessarily bad, though. If he can execute it well, then it's all good.

I'm kind of hoping the catcher continues to be vaguely supernatural.

So, Kagamigami ended at chapter 39, and I'm starting to suspect that Iwashiro might be cursed. I see no other explanation why his manga's always have such bad reception and get cut short.

Nisekoi may be going into final Jeopardy mode if this keeps up...

Damn, what the hell has happened to Nisekoi?? I have been stalling it for over a year, and now I'm wondering if catching up will only leave me disappointed.

-sigh- Lost passwords...

It seems that the most recent arc, focused on Marika proved to be unpopular. It just ended, so we'll see if the rankings will go up.

The best thing about the arc was the last chapter, which changes the status quo drastically-if our hero will take a hint.

Have to focus on studying this week, so here are the rankings. I hope what happened to Straighten Up! is a fluke.

Amusing that the center color series are the "immune to ranking" ones.

Yeah, I did find that quite amusing.

For what it's worth, I've put up my fourth annual review of the online edition.

Issue 2:

Food Wars! (Cover, Lead Colour, Anime Season 2 Announcement)
1. My Hero Academia
2. Black Clover
Hinomaru Zumō (Center Colour)
3. Straighten Up!
4. Assassination Classroom
Koroshiya Domino (Center Colour, One-Shot)
5. World Trigger
6. Haikyu!!
7. Samon the Summoner
8. Mononofu
9. PSI Kusuo Saiki
Buddy Strike (Chapter 5)
10. Kochikame
11. Gin Tama
12. Nisekoi
13. Bleach
14. Toriko
Isobe Isobee Monogatari
One Piece (Absent)

Straighten Up!, thankfully, recovered immediately. Sales for volume 2 came in, and they're actually worse than volume 1 (to be fair, slow month - everything except Black Clover declined). So it's another Hinomaru Zumō - great ranks, but slow actual sales. Hopefully both will improve if they get an anime.

Assassination Classroom's chapter last week claimed the series would be over in "three hours" in-series, so I would not be surprised to see it conclude this round.

I'm actually surprised to see Samon stabilize in the middle like this, though. I wonder how long they'll last. Series that debut low or in the middle tend to be on borrowed time until they crash and burn, with the ones lasting being the ones who open big. I feel like the only cancellation will be Buddy Strike, along with the aforementioned natural conclusion, though.

Issue 3-4 Info:
Cover, Lead Colour: Assassination Classroom
Center Colour: Haikyu!!, Cremators (One-Shot)

English Issue 1:
One Piece (Cover, Lead Colour)
Blue Exorcist
Bleach
My Hero Academia
Nisekoi
Toriko
Black Clover
Food Wars!
Seraph of the End
YuYu Hakusho (Jump Back)

This week's Nihongo Lesson.

Perhaps Samon got a particularly good plot arc eight weeks ago. Anyone been following it?

I've been a bit busy (not at usual location right now), so I haven't checked the ranks yet. There's a break week after the issue I missed, though, so I'll post the ranks when I'm able.

i was wondering if i buy North America manga will it help the one that make it in japans get money. sorry for bad english

The North American market for manga is relatively small, but a percentage of the money does flow back to the Japanese creators thanks to the way the licensing works. (Overseas royalties are not usually a big source of income for creators, but it's always nice to have lunch money!)

What buying the authorized translations does is allow the translators to stay in business, and increases the chance that other manga will have a legally available translation done by professionals.

Bless the scanlators for raising interest in obscure series, but they do squat all for the original mangaka.

There's no issue this week. I was too distracted to catch last week's and will post them this week when I have the time.
