The mod I installed pretty much turns them into exactly that. Instead of status effect application being dependent on the presence, or absent thereof, of magic/armor, it instead relies on specific attributes (Constitution vs getting stunned or knocked down, for example) and other factors to apply them. Makes it also more difficult for my own frontliners to knock targets down instead of just "Whirlwind then Stomp." It certainly makes Taunt Tanks more viable this time around.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.Even they acknowledged Taunt being blocked by physical armor was a bad idea since it's now one of the only statuses that ignores it as of a recent patch.
The game seems balanced around turn denial through statuses otherwise, though (with the exception of some of the bosses that are immune to them), and I'd honestly rather bank on something mostly reliable rather than gamble with them as in most RPGs.
Indeed. I can't play the game if I can't play the game. I had to try every battle more than twice. I had enough, switched to exploration mode and just slaughtered my way through the camp. There's no sense of accomplishment because I cannot accomplish anything without using the mode where you cannot fail. I don't care if it's non-linear, if all it means there are a myriad of ways for me to fail.
And you're forced to use consumables; have a clunky camera, a cluttered hotbar; asshole party members; a shitty UI that always makes a character attack when I only want to move them; tedious placements because you have to constantly switch character in dialogue vs battle, some party members were suddenly missing because they were in a dialogue with some NPC without me noticing...
It's a total write-off for me. But enough of that negativity, I won't complain anymore. Thanks for trying to help me.

So I finally budgeted some time to play again.
And I agree with Ultimatum the Isbeil fight is bullshit.
Disgusted, but not surprisedDecided to try running through the game again with more focused builds. For some reason a lot of the voidwoken leave behind blessed water when they die, at least in chapter 1. Was that ever a thing that was stated to be intended in a patch or something?
Isn't that down to the Seven sending you signs that you're their chosen and to hurry along to your destiny?
Conception is sin Birth is pain Life is toil Death is inevitableYeah, there's meant to be a voice that comes with the holy water.
New theme music also a boxIn chapter 1, your character's god will leave holy water for you after some of the fights. Some of them say as much during your conversation with them.
I know some people don't like the armor system in the game and it definitely has its flaws, but I like that I can know with certainty whether or not my debuff/status effect attacks will work without doing math. My main gripe with it is that it encourages you to focus all on one damage type (usually physical) and puts mixed damage characters and parties at a disadvantage.

New patch has dropped
The most important thing they've added (in my view anyway) is that skills books will now state the required weapon
you can read the patch notes here
New theme music also a boxI started a Honour Mode save as Undead Enchanter and then recruited The Red Prince, which led to an assassin killing my entire party
Bugger
New theme music also a boxYeah, that first assassin can be a surprisingly hard fight.
Made up to the first Alexander fight, the two seekers with me died very quickly and my party was slaughtered while I beat a brave retreat
I feel seriously frustrated because if I go back into fight my party will be slaughtered again and then my save will be wiped, and they're a level above me
New theme music also a boxGiving this a bump because..
There's a definitive-edition coming in Augest!
It's free for people already own the game obviously ,loads of fixes and improvements, they're redoing chapter three because it's generally felt to be weakest area of the game,as well fixing how items are equipped
New downloadable content about a squirrel with an existential crisis
New theme music also a boxOh man, between this and Deadfire I am so set for my RPG fix for the foreseeable future.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets. That reminds me, I should probably buy Deadfire soon. And finally get around to finishing my Cipher playthrough in the first Pillars game so I can import her.
Disgusted, but not surprisedA full rework of the third chapter? Huh. I'm... sort of skeptical, but on the other hand, I already own the game, so the update's free. And talking with the various animals was my favorite part of the game, so the squirrel thing sounds intriguing.

Gone to Faerie, no forwarding address. (AO3)So I've started playing Original Sin 1,and there's a feature I really wish Divinity 2 had, bodies telporting back to you to save you going back to them
New theme music also a boxI wasn't able to play 2 for too long with my weak PC, but now that I've got something stronger to play it on I'm still kind of blown away at how much of a rollercoaster this game is without any of it feeling too dark, too silly, too dissonant, or, worse than any of that, too predictable or boring. I love how just getting two different abilities - yall probably know the ones - completely changes how you can approach the game world and its characters in both gameplay and roleplaying.
A lot of fantasy races are just kinda stock character archetypes or so underplayed they may as well all just be humans, but I think this is the first time I've genuinely wanted to go back and play a game again as multiple different races, both for how most of the NPCs will treat my character and to see if there's things I missed playing what I did the first time. This game got me to like elves, of all things.
I'm still on Reaper's Coast and I hear Arx is kind of lame, but what about the Nameless Isles? I've got a lot of quests to clean up before I leave and I only play a little bit each day, but should I finish my playthrough in the vanilla game, or make the jump for the allegedly better Arx once it drops in a few days?

I look forward to the squirrel knight companion.

Weird prediction about Divinity 3,since the focus of the two games has been on Braccus, and games before that involved Damian, the third game loop around to focus Damian again
That or they'll do a game about Braccus before he was killed the first time
New theme music also a boxThey seem to have given up on Damian's plot entirely. He's barely mentioned at all in Original Sin 2.
Then again Original Sin 2 also takes most of the continuity and throws it in a paper shredder. Like, it even ignores the first Original Sin's plot.
And that's without going into how 90% of Original Sin and Original Sin 2 players haven't played Beyond Divinity or Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga so they have no real reference to who Damien is or how he fits.

he's mentioned in the background, like there's texts "Son against the father' which reference him turning against his father, you also have that elf in the dungeon mention him

I only got an idea of who he was when I stumbled across the text in game and a wiki walk

New theme music also a boxHence my saying he's "barely" mentioned.
True, the "armor/magic armor as second HP bar and protection from statuses" thing was an interesting and novel idea, and I'm glad they did try it, but I'd say it can be safely scrapped as less interesting than normal damage reduction.
