Okay, so game engines are looking more photorealistic. That's nice and all, but what about physics and AI, among other things...not to mention fun gameplay?
And while I'm at it, I want 3D sound back. PC gaming audio has taken a nosedive for the worse ever since 2007, when XAudio2 + X3DAudio and FMOD Ex started becoming dominant. Apparently, AP Is with full 3D positional audio aren't as good as simulating a damn movie theater speaker system. If the game developers want a software-based audio solution, why couldn't they just keep using OpenAL and combine it with Rapture3D?
^sighs^ This may not have happened if Aureal were still around to give Creative a swift kick in the ass every now and then...

We like to talk about games, but I'm betting we really want to talk about the things that make games possible, so I've decided to create this thread for discussion, speculation, and other stuff.
I'm personally excited about these new game engines that have recently been shown and look in-fucking-credible, like Luminous Studio and Unreal Engine 4.
Also, this Unlimited Detail thing by these Euclideon guys seems hold the most promise for truly realistic graphics, and I'm hoping to see more from them soon.
