I meant fly helicopters.

Actually no, I never saw a single helicopter. But there was always something shooting at me from overhead and this weird chop chop chop chop sound. tongue

I imagine this game would be really fun on the Wii U. Imagine doing the hacking puzzles on the touchpad, or those freaky Dedsec ads on your little screen.

Sorry. sad

But to be relevant for a moment, if they made a DLC where we play as Clara I'd buy it today.

I don't wanna sound like I'm bashing the game but I've just killed Iraq and I gotta ask, does the game ever get like better?

Because to be honest I've just been desperately struggling to care about anyone or the plot or anything and it's just not happening.

I know the game came out a whole four months ago, but maybe we could spoiler tag important plot things?

Also, grenade launchers are useless in this game. Five grenades should be enough to kill an enemy fixer in a vehicle, seriously.

[up] Right? I don't know what kind of heat he's packing, but in my game the grenade launcher could level a freaking building.

[up][up][up] The game does pick up from that point. And the characters are actually really well written. I cried when I saw how they killed his poor niece.

[up]YMMV is certainly in effect here since his nieces' death actually sort of pissed me off. In general, the game's treatment of not only children, but characters period sort of pissed me off.

I didn't like how his niece died because they simply didn't have the balls to do things properly at all, or at least not in my opinion. They refused to show her face, instead showing us her doll a dozen times. They throw in a few cute 'Happy Family' lines just moments before and... Instead of showing her die, they show us her doll again. They show us her grave. They show us every image. But Lena had no character. They did not endear her to me. She was not a character. She was not a child, nor a person in anyway; she was a tool to further the plot and nothing more.

Which becomes a MAJOR issue when your character's entire angst is because of another character's death, but you, as the audience, know NOTHING about this character. Lena has only one scene and that is her death. Now, I'm not saying I didn't feel for Aiden; I did and I've been there in dealing with the loss of a family member and, though maybe not someone so young, I did almost lose my 17 year old cousin to cancer. However, I sympathized with him. I didn't feel his loss of specifically the character that he cared so deeply for. I didn't feel like I lost anything with her death. I didn't empathize with him; I didn't mourn her loss.

Compare to Clara's death where she had a character and we knew what she was like and her aspirations and etc. We felt her loss as evidenced by how many on here hope she didn't die or wish there was a DLC featuring her. That's Empathy right there.

The issue of using the lamb doll instead of Lena's face is that it connects us emotionally to the lamb more than it does to the character that's actually being killed off. Its 'Sympathy Doll Shot' to the extreme and it doesn't work when our motivation for the plot hinges on us feeling something for this character. Sure, I, understandably, want Aiden to seek his revenge or whatever, but I have no personal stake or interest in his plight simply because the game forces me to sympathize instead of empathize.

Here's how I feel the issue could have been solved. We start with Aiden at home with the kids and his sister. We hear conversations with them. We slowly get introduced to his hacking stuff by Aiden doing small things for his family using his smart phone. We can get acquainted with Lena and the brother (I can't remember his name. He had, what? 5 lines?); We can know them as characters rather then tools to further plots or create plot cul-de-sacs.

After that, Aiden gets a call from his partner. We do the Merlaut Job. We feel the panic as things go wrong instead of being introduced to it. We escape. We go home. We drive the car ourselves through the tunnel and get attacked which gives us, the player, some level of feeling responsible for her death even though we couldn't have prevented it because of the plot. That way, we empathize because we knew Lena as a character.

I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.

[up] That would have been better then the opening, honestly. But I see where you're coming from. I do wish we could have seen more of Aiden and his life before the game but then again it is just the first entry.

That's what sequels are for. Watch Dogs is a new series and I hope part 2 improves upon what the first game did.

[up]It just frustrates me a lot when children become more of tools for plots than characters themselves. Lena exists to motivate Aiden's plot. The other kid exists to create plot cul-de-sacs to fill up missions of saving him from the bad guys and then for him to escape and... somehow end up with the bad guys again and save him again. He doesn't serve any further purpose.

Like, there's a lot that could have been expanded on. He's CLEARLY got PTSD or just general depression from the car crash, so it would invest me A LOT more if we had seen him before the crash and the drastic change in how he acts. THAT would get me in a second. And, at a lot of points, he could lash back at Aiden; he has every reason to do so and it would certainly give BOTH characters more depth and an actual dynamic between the two. But they don't and he just doesn't do much.

I also hate when they want to kill kids off but then they don't have the balls to actually do it. You're going to kill a kid in a game for the sake of drama? Better have the courage to actually do so on screen and tastefully or don't bother at all. That's one reason I liked Episode 3 of Telltale's The Walking Dead since they handled the matter directly and powerfully, if that makes any sense.

@CEO, I got at least 4 good hits with the grenade launcher before he sped away and it didn't seem to do ANY damage. I have the notoriety perk that boosts vehicle damage, too.

Speaking of online hacking though, does anyone have any cool stories? Once for a tailing mission, I was tracking a guy who was holed up in the top floor of a factory. He knew I was coming because he was tossing remote mines everywhere and hiding in a spot that was hard to get an angle on. Unfortunately for him he didn't notice the stairs leading right up to his hiding spot that had plenty of blind spots, so I was able to sit right next to him and go from 0% to 100% while he frantically threw mines everywhere I wasn't.

I find the best strategy for tailing and hacking is to hide in plain sight rather than find an actual hiding spot. Even though they can profile you easily, I've succeeded at many hacks because the enemy fixer was searching alleys and behind dumpsters while I was just standing out in the open.

[up]I might pick it up once I finish the main campaign, but I'm still only on Act 2 right now.

Also, Ubisoft just announced the DLC will not be coming to the Wii U version. Wii U owners just can't catch a break.

That's barely news. It's a miracle Ubisoft didn't outright cancel it.

I give them major props for trying. They're pretty much the only publisher that did. But their triple A games just don't sell what they need to on Wii U. So I can't fault them for giving up on that track. We're still getting stuff like Rayman and Just Dance from them, since those actually do pretty well.

Splinter Cell Blacklist only sold like 3% of its total sales on the Wii U, so I don't know why Ubisoft would even bother publishing action games like that for it anymore. It's still possible it will just get cancelled. At least the Wii U has a bunch of great looking exclusives lined up.

They've officially stopped trying to do action games on Wii U. Watch_Dogs is the last one, and they're doing it pretty much just because they promised to.

[up]x4 I remember there was one guy tailing me and I was on a highway area by Brandon Docks or it might have been the Wards and I was freaking out trying to check for the guy in the cars and under the bridge. I found him way too late in the small crevice between lanes, just sitting there and waiting it out. I laughed my ass off about what a good location it was.

Is it just me or does the game hit a MASSIVE difficulty spike around Acts 4 and 5? My god...

I finally made it to the mission where Damien has control and I'm going after him and have to hit the three CTOS towers.

But, his hacking is fucking with my Nav and Waypoint makers so much that I haven't the slightest as to where I'm supposed to be going. There are so many way points and the Nav switches around constantly that I haven't a clue where to go. At all.

Also, I'd like to take the time to remind people that the ctOs Scans MAKE NO SENSE. First, why are police chasing after ME if a criminal guy pulls a gun and starts shooting it? That very blatantly makes no sense at all.

Now, I have Scans going off left and right. What must the cops be thinking at this point? I mean... Is ctOs telling them WHAT they're being sent to go after someone for? Or are they just mindlessly told 'Go to 'x' location and arrest person 'y" with no context?

Its also almost hysterical how often cops will just fire upon you with civilans everywhere. Or, simply fire one you even if you're unarmed. They just mindlessly gun for you and its HILARIOUSLY stupid. Additionally, I find it funny that, if cops run over someone in a chase, YOU get the reputation decrease for it.

Seriously, This mission should by all means be the best in the game because of how much your gameplay has been flipped. But, instead, there's absolutely no way to combat anything being thrown at you, your enemy has more tools at his disposal than you did for some reason (???), and all it creates is a massive headache.

Oy vey.
