Okay, after looking over past posts , I'll go with Private and Clouds not being from around Hoofington.

"Manticores and Cockatrices? I'd rather not run into those..." Clouds replied to Bramble.

Clouds faces Crystal and asks "Oh, by the way, what do you know about the plants in the Everfree Forest? Have you been there before?"

As Crystal stepped into the room, she floated a folder out of her saddlebags and towards the receptionist.

"Oh, don't know anything specific, just some advice my uncle once told me. Wild animals, he said, usually give a sign that they want to bite you. Plants are trickier, you often don't know you're in trouble until you're neck-deep in it. More than one poor soul was lured by the smell of flowers into a field of poisonous plants."

Do you think we could go around the forest?

Using the map, can I do a check on the distance for a direct route through the Everfree, the shortest distance around it, and how long it would take to cross it flying? And which stats would I need? And I think I get a bonus for Clouds' special talent of thinking. And if I'm using Lore, would this count as my specialty?

To work out the bes action from the map will take intelligence. You can try using any of the following skills: Investigate, organisation or survival.

Okay. Not sure if this falls under Clouds' special talent of Thinking, so I'll put the extra dice roll in parentheses. Intelligence of 5 and Organization of 3: 10 & 7, 8, 6, 3, 2, 6, 4, 6, (10 & 10 & 7).

That's 4 if it isn't the talent and either 8 or 9 if it is.

Crystal gives the map an idle glance. "So, just what is it that you folks need to trek through the Everfree Forest for, anyway?"

I'm going to assume she caught the bit about the cave, but not about the mayor. Rolling Intelligence+Survival gives (2, 5, 7, 6, 3), for... 1 achievement point. Whee.

I'll let Clouds have the bonus. Okay, pretty simple. The mountain isn't particularly far away, but it will take days to go around the forrest. You'll have to pass through other towns if ou want to do that.

Flying over the forrest will be much faster. It's only about 30 kilometers wide. Clearly the slope of the mountain has constrained the forrest growth.

"That's it! The quickest way is flying! We'll just fly over the Everfree and then we won't have to deal with the wildlife! It's perfe-"

Clouds remembers no one else in the group is a Pegasus.

"Oh..."

Is hiring an air taxi feasible? How much money does everyone have?

Or assuming that I really do have lots of unspent character points, I could just train mass teleport, and then teleport everyone over. It's a very insane plan, but it should work according to the rules.

Or if that isn't insane enough, we could cast Want It Need It on Cloud and have him lure the dragon back home. There's no way that could possibly go wrong.

And I think I prefered your first idea.:P

And you can't see the spot and have never been there, so I don't think we could use the teleport even if you had enough points.

Well it depends on the exact number. If it's divided by ten, then I'll only have 6 points, which isn't enough to do anything interesting. But if it's say divided by 6, I'll have 10, enough to get Glimmer Wings.

Shouldn't we have a discussion/OOC thread for this sort of thing?

I intended for the old thread to be the discussion thread, but I can make another one if you think it's necessary. And yeah, I went with dividing by 10.

Hiring an air taxi wouldn't be a problem if you were going somewhere safe. It's technically possible to convince the taxi flyer to take you, but the danger will make it harder to convince them.

You should all have a fair amount of money. Let's say 50 bits each.

And casting Want it, Need it on Clouds

"Oh, to answer your question, the mayor was kidnapped by a dragon and we're planning on rescuing him." Clouds replied to Crystal.

And why do I have the feeling Clouds is actually going to have Want It Need It cast on him at some point...

@Sereg:Bramble might a bit short on change though, he was intending to ask around for a job for some simple money.

"Well, I could get there by air..." Bramble began with a grin, "IF somepony had a catapault to launch me over."

@Ace: It's cool. Most of his assets could be tied up in travelling equipment. Like your map, saddlebags, etc.

"Kidnapped?" Crystal's face took on a sudden look of concern. "We'd better act fast. Can't we just convince a few pegasi to fly the rest of us non-winged folk over?"

More accurately, a dragon picked up the mayor and flew off. It's still not clear why.

Speaking of which, I think we should all make Lore checks to see what we know about dragons, and anything that might explain the behavior. What attribute is involved? Int+Lore?

@Sereg: Bramble mostly has a few (dwindling) rations of food (preserved/dried/salted foodstuff), his generous but not oversized saddlebags, some rope, and a set of dull-coloured steel-shod hoof shoes.
