Original CoH2 75% off for about 47 minutes more on Steam, at $10!

So last night, I found a lone copy of COH:2 at the $20 video game discount section at my local Target without a price stamped on it. A scan on one of the red pricing machines read "Invalid: item not found" and a price check with the cashier said that the last known price was "$11.98".
Of course I'd immediately purchase a once $60 PC game for $48 less!
So I'm here to wonder about the tropers' community for COH:2: political controversy aside, the multiplayer is still alive and well right? Or is it like the other COH games with an aristocracy of veteran players curb stomping anyone new that attempts to join.
Oh hell yeah, the MP community is absolutely alive on this game. Sure some of the bigger gaming sites like Gamereplays.Org seem to absolutely hate the game for some reason (supposedly because of the DLC commanders), you'll easily find a match online within a minute.
The difficulty though... that's a different story. The Co H franchise has always been a very difficult RTS to master, especially against online opponents, and that hasn't changed one bit here. While the auto matchmaker will try to find you a fair opponent, most of the time you'll be up against players who understand the game mechanics of the factions very well and know how to use those little stat buffs the Intelligence Bulletins/Perks give you.
The factions available, though they may resemble the US and Wermacht from Co H 1, are quite different in practice. For one there are no base defenses except for the passive stuff like sandbags, landmines and barbwires, the units are somewhat cheaper than in Co H 1 (and VERY expendable if you're Soviet), and the True Sight mechanics change the way urban combat works significantly since you can no longer see over or behind of many objects unless someone has actual line of sight to it.
My advice? Play the campaign first, followed by the Theater of War scenarios. That should help you get a taste for both factions and understand the game at least a wee bit better.
Well, to be honest, the bulletins are a pretty minor part of the game.
Multiplayer remains lively. No issues finding a game.
Make good use of seeing your units on the top-right and keep antsy about retreating infantry. Never expect to win firefights without cover if they got it!

So I decided to install COH:2 - what's really the point of having two discs if the thing wants to wait 17 hours on Steam? Or is it that it's really the disc(s) that are loading and that it'll take nearly another day to complete regardless?
I cannot say, I've lost track of the last time I've installed a game off a CD.
It never took me that long to download Co H 2 from Steam, and I'm stuck with a broadband internet connection around 2.5-5.0 mbps. Probably around 5-8 hours, tops.
Game's now has a "Free Commander Rotation" for the premium commanders.

Sounds a lot like the League of Legends weekly hero rotation thing. Not a bad idea really, especially since it will allow the playerbase to experiment with more often with the new commanders and have an interest in grinding for them.
Relic definitely keeps an eye on F2P games, yeah
LMGs nerfed, SMGs buffed, "Prioritize Vehicles" toggle for AT units (YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS), changes to Wehrmacht Tier 4 (IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED THE OSTHEER I TELL YOU), bug fixed, other stuff too.

Any updates on the US Forces campaign expansion, or whether they will add a German campaign as well?
Unfortunately not on both accounts.
Now there IS something new on the 'Murican campaign.

So how is that supposed to work? Do you have a certain number of tanks, infantry and vehicles under your control which cannot be replaced once destroyed, or do they just mean that you won't be able to bring back veteran or hero units upon death?

I know as much as you!
If I were a marketer for a vidja gaem, I'd just say almost literally everything aside from actual plot and numbers. But I'm not a marketer.
Wait, $40 bucks, really?! They had better include the Western Front expansion as part of the deal, cause right now that campaign is absolutely NOT worth the money!
I'm not seeing that pricing working out either.
Doesn't seem like it's the full SDK kit though, just a mission scripter. Good to hear that the alpha users have already created some interesting modes even before release.
Yeah, definitely a small start. I certainly want to try the mod tools, which I have started by asking on the forums how do I open the mod tools because I can't find them.
I think they're supposed to be released tonight along with the new observer mode patch. Could be wrong though, since no definite release date was given.

Biiiiiggggg patch. Lots of stuff, namely goodbye double heavies, I knew you far too well.
Yeah, they're supposed to look like statues.
You know, a way to mark them as not-moving persons like the ones which actually moved.
