Wait, isn't there already a mod out there for Company of Heroes that does exactly what this new game is probably gonna try and do?!
Which is better, the Team Fortress mod or Team Fortress 2?
Jonah FalconIt remains to be seen how Co H 2's core mechanics will change from the first game.
It could be a Mission-Pack Sequel that like you say largely could have been replaced with that mod to most people, or an attempt to remake the series' gameplay to a large extent like Do W 2 did.
I'm expecting and hoping for Relic to do the latter, <3 them all.

The Eastern Front Mod is actually pretty high-quality Jonah, moreso than most. It's even won a couple "Mod of the Year" awards on a few sites, and the Soviet faction definately plays and feels different compared to the others. And by the end of this year they plan to add in the Ostheer faction, which is basically a mismash of the troops and tactics that the Germans used in that Theatre.
Given how familiar the two are though, I'm beginning to worry if THQ's upper management may force the Eastern Front mod team to shut down development. It once happened with the Halo RTS mod made for Command & Conquer Zero Hour due to the production of Microsoft's own RTS game, so it could possibly happen again. Let's hope they have the decency and brains to realize that such an action will only upset the fans and cause resentment...
DAMMIT NOW I'M TERRIFIED TOO :-<
Officially revealed, and the official site is up: www.companyofheroes.com
Jonah FalconOnly a single screenshot? I guess they're saving all the juicy stuff for the PC gamer magazine issue, eh?
The Escapist has a preview. Units use "true line-of-sight" and thus have blind spots, flamethrowers are going to be making a return, infantry can vault over cover, and snow has persistent tracks and footprints, tipping you off about the enemy's whereabouts.
And here's an interview:

I don't understand this "true-line-of-sight" thing. If it's going o be like the "true-fire" ability like in Tales of Valor I'm going to be a bit miffed :/
I think it's due to the awesomeness of the first game that I cannot imagine how the new one is going to be. Bar the improved graphics of course. What I would absoutley LOVE to have is some quasi-WW 2 RTS with zany sci-fi units. Like "whatif" tanks, energy weapons, and the such. But alas...
For Glorious Sociopathy! Peace Through Firepower! My Halo/ Foz crossover fic http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7082058/1/Spartan_of_ZeroThat pretty much describes Red Alert 1. There was also another game with a similar premise that was released for the PC back in the early 2000s, and shared a lot of ideas from the Red Alert series (the Soviets had tesla tech and bomber blimps, the Allies had some variation on the Philadelphia project, the Germans had jetpack troops, a mobile V2 launcher, and the Mauss the British had steam-powered armor) but I forgot it's name.
Yeah, something akin to that, but meeting Co H's game-play mechanics. I played Red Alert 3, it was fun buuuuttttt.....rather play something like Co H...
For Glorious Sociopathy! Peace Through Firepower! My Halo/ Foz crossover fic http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7082058/1/Spartan_of_ZeroOkay that is, pardon my French, FUCKING AWESOME. Why have I not heard of it before?
For Glorious Sociopathy! Peace Through Firepower! My Halo/ Foz crossover fic http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7082058/1/Spartan_of_ZeroOk, that's definately the game I was talking about before. And indeed, it sounds a lot like a C&C clone.
I'm still waiting for that issue of PC Gamer to appear here on Guam, that's where all the good info is gonna be at!
oh my.
Nous restons ici.Wait, you mean to tell me that there were commanders dumb enough to send TANKS over frozen lakes in WWII?! I know that some of the armies were crazy like that but Christ, that's as dumb as dumb gets!
Cover of PC Gamer June 2012
- 2013 release
- Main campaign is Eastern front, playing as Russians
- Lots of snow. Snow slows down troops and tanks, but can also form cover.
- Units can vault over cover such as low walls.
