Yeah, I remember that. The whole draw behind was supposed to be episodic releases that were actually supposed to be part of the Matrix trilogy, but instead the whole thing fell apart within a couple of years. Hell I'm amazed that it even survived this long!

I don't know whether it was better than the single player games, but when they announced it's shutdown I think they did a big apocalypse thing where the game would increasing act like the Matrix breaking down more and more.
Wikipedia has something on their "final event"

Personally I was more interested in that than the game, but never interested enough to join.

I just found out about the existence of the MMORPG The Matrix Online, which is apparently no longer running. Does anyone else find a certain . . . irony in the idea of an MMORPG based on The Matrix? How much do you think this was on the developers' minds?
