I actually think ATLUS indirectly gives the protagonists some personality. Devil Survivor 2's MC is a bit of a goofball when he wants to be one. P3 MC is fairly calm most of the time. Just to use two examples.

I haven't touched P4 or P3 in awhile, but I've recently taken up watching the P4 anime, and it's gotten me thinking about something that occurred to me a long time ago.
Even though he's a blank slate player character in the game, I actually found the P4 MC more interesting than P3's MC (don't know much about Fe MC though, since I haven't played P 3 P). Can't quite put my finger on why, though.
