This is a thread for discussion of fandubs.

As you know, dubbing is not an easy thing to get right. So I figure even if you've found things that aren't terrible, feel free to post them here.

Currently I've taken a liking to listening to fandubbed songs. Sure a lot of them aren't very good, but I like the extra depth that understanding the lyrics as they're playing lends the songs.

For instance, as posted in the Nichijou thread, this has to be one of the best ever:

But that's not all.

I really can't level much criticism against Mosaic Kakera English version. I suppose if anything the singer isn't super experienced.

Hacking to the Gate. The words seem too long. But then the original breaks up words too, so perhaps it's just that inexperienced singers don't know how to do it properly.

Magia. Amanda Lee seems to do a lot doesn't she? It's great singing, but somehow I prefer the words in some of the other translations better, and it's still not as far from the subs as this version.

Also on the non-musical fandub side of things this Touma vs Misaka dub, courtesy of the Index thread, isn't bad.

I would prefer this thread discussed what these aspiring voice actors/singers could do to improve their versions of these songs and lines rather than why they would do this at all, but I suppose there's an element of truth in saying that imitations of the originals and fan works are likely to be inferior.

If you have some great fan work to post, leave it here. If you'd like to discuss fan communities also feel free to leave that here.

Perhaps even if you'd like to imagine what it would be like if Fandubs were our only hope of seeing anime in English?
