http://consumerist.com/2012/04/congratulations-ea-you-are-the-worst-company-in-america-for-2012.html

EA managed to edge out Bank of America and other bastardly companies for Worst American Company according to The Consumerist. Wonder how EA will respond. Should be good for a laugh.

How will they respond?

Free 10%-off coupons for Origin, of course!

Will they use the word "entitlement" in their response? Also, gotta love that burn of Mass Effect 3's ending at the end. "Traditionally, the Poo has been delivered on its little red pillow. But this year, we'll give EA three different color options for its pillow, though in the end it's still the same old Poo."

EDIT: [up]Damn, guess they didn't say "entitlement" and instead opted for "Well, we're just gonna keep on doing what we do, so eat it Consumerist users" like the mature and respectable folks they are.

And with this poll, luxury item problems beat homelessness as the worst thing a company can inflict on you.

Gamers, I can't lie. You look like fucking assholes.

EDIT: Changed the wording. Not the message.

To be fair, at least Bank of America was somewhat working within rules, just maximizing how much they changed the rules to favor them behind the scenes.

EA mostly has been out and out blatantly visible about their greed.

[up][up] Here's the thing.

Bank of America is already universally recognized as evil, as exemplified by their multiple poo awards. They can be avoided, because you don't have to use them as your bank, and selecting them again will do nothing. Additionally, they're limited to the US.

EA, on the other hand, is an International company that buys fledgling companies and then runs them into the ground. This results in people losing their livelihoods and, possibly, end up homeless. And they are everywhere.

The contest was also just around the whole DLC controversy, so that also helped to fuel the flames. Also, don't use the term "White People Problems". That implies that white people are immune to being homeless, and let me assure you, that's far from the truth.

[up]Activision wasn't nominated. Perhaps because the owners are French.

Gamers already know how bad EA is. Every single time the corporation is brought up, people decry it and call it the devil.

But for all the evils EA has done, they're still working with video games. There are greater problems in life.

Also, don't use the term "White People Problems". That implies that white people are immune to being homeless, and let me assure you, that's far from the truth.

I was using the internet phrase. I understand that more than half the homeless people in my country are white; I just couldn't think of a better phrase at the time.

"Luxury item problems" definitely works.

Well, Activision isn't actually that demonic. They sell obvious rehashes and overpriced DLC, but you know what you're getting into. EA will strip their games for day 1 DLC, scan your files with Origin, call you entitled, and use their influence with major gaming "journalists" to get them to bash naysayers. I have to go to Forbes to find any reasonable criticism of Bioware, because people like Jim Sterling and Penny Arcade are crying about entitlement and 4chan being mean to them.

Glad to see EA's PR response to their bullshit is just as bad as ever.

Seriously, if EA just shut up it might do more for their company.

@Scardoll: And no one has said that this is a super important issue deserving attention. This is just a random poll on the Internet. Nothing more, nothing less. It's just bringing light on greed in another form.

Also, [up] this

@Scardoll.

Stray Bard makes a good point, actually - actions like ruthlessly destroying smaller companies to bolster your own destroys lives, and is the kind of crap people remember sourly from, say, the [2nd] Industrial Revolution.

Most that I hear/read (granted, "nothing that you hear and half of what you read," but half of what I've read on the subject is still pretty damning) about EA tells me they're also monstrous for reasons that have anything to do with their games (granted, that's an issue in companies in general, thus just seems to be the age of drawing attention to that sort of thing) - the way they treat consumers is just the icing on the cake.

to be fair. bank of America is also mostly a first world problem given their main focus of operation is on US soil.

Guys, guys. Let's please calm down to avoid this topic from becoming locked. Sure, I do agree EA's business practices are "evil" but, that doesn't mean we should discount the many other "evil" things that happen around the world.

[up] Well, for one, this is just American companies. Of course, there should've been categories here. EA could definitely be argued to be #1 in worst American company in the entertainment industry.

This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

the only one discounting anything was scar doll, by invoking first world problems as if the fact that there are bigger concerns in the world invalidates all smaller concerns.
