All right, beat another game (still on easy), now with Feddie Cruiser! This time it's much better only drop to around 60% health when the 2nd form dies)
Loadout...managed to save a lot of missiles with the thing so breach + small bomb is pretty effective...
Give me cute or give me...something?@JAF: So you got review copy yet? xD Or plan to buy it yourself? :D
I have a copy.
Jonah FalconOh okay. So what do you think of it?
Finally beat the boss. I like the Zoltan Cruiser. Those extra five hits *really* help in the beginning, which gives you a leg up for the rest. Especially for being able to greatly delay boarding parties.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comthis game is hard. but if you won a battle you feel praud as a captain
Anyone know how buying the soundtrack on Steam works? I'm enjoying it enough that it's definitely worth $4, but the Steam store has it listed as a DLC (ie, "requires FTL: Faster Than Light to play") and I have no idea what the mechanics of that are. You don't have to play it through Steam or something stupid like that, do you? I just want some mp3s.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.@Native Jovian: check the directory for FTL in your steam folder. I keep finding soundtracks there. :V
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryBuy it, it'll appear in your Steam directory, copy it out from there, done!
Really though I'll just increase the amount by $1 and grab it from Bandcamp instead, since you can grab several formats and bitrates from there...
Give me cute or give me...something?This game would be significantly better without the time limit...
Or hell, as a purely open-world. You know, like a lot of other Roguelikes. (Hi Z Angband.)
Nous restons ici.I ended up getting it from Bandcamp. $5 is totally worth it. There's way more music in the game than I realized! Probably because there's so much cross-referencing between all of them.
Yeah, I could get behind that. An alternate game mode where you don't have to worry about the rebel fleet would be nice, just for a change of pace.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. Not yet. Just did the tutorial for now. Seems sound.
Jonah FalconEr lots of roguelikes don't have an open world...and lots of em have time limit (food clock and such)...just saying...
Give me cute or give me...something?^Don't forget "Stay in this floor too long and powerful almost undefeatable enemy appears". Didn't that happen in nethack?*shrugs*
Anyhoo, I find it little annoying how some gamers treat time limit as something that is automatically bad Besides, this game would have to be balanced differently without it. You could just get all scrap you need, heal at shops if you get badly damaged, buy awesome stuff and go to next sector, rinse and repeat and game wouldn't be difficult at all.

Questionable; it's pretty possible to run out of gas or boarded by six Mantis while running a crew of mostly Engis, and otherwise get yourself killed without involving the rebel fleet. I don't think different balance would nearly as necessary as you think.
Nous restons ici.Hmm six mantises? Anyway, running out of gas isn't that big problem when you have money so they would have to make gas rarer.
Well, even if you didn't have to worry about the rebel fleet, there'd still be a limited number of jump beacons you can visit, which puts a limit on things to a large extent. Once you've cleared out a sector, there's no reason to stick around — it's just a waste of fuel. But yeah, that's why I'd think "no fleet mode" would make a good alternate (unlockable?) game type, but isn't necessarily a good idea for the main game.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Endless Mode perhaps? No fleet, see how far you can go?
The game isn't really built to be a sandbox. Having no approaching fleet would make the game incredibly easy and aimless.
Although, I suppose a survival mode where each sector gets progressively harder could work.

Originally game was infinite until death and they had option to continue after final boss, but they removed that option once they realized that it was pointless because after you have beat final boss you are able to pretty much beat every foe. I mean, what would you even do after that? Max your stats that you can't even max since max generator energy doesn't allow you to use all systems maxed?
Heh, been playing for a few hours, and I must say this is addictive! My best run so far has been with the federation cruiser. I had max shields(of course) and almost maxed artillery beam, along with twin burst mark 2s, a hull smasher laser, and two defense drones. Though, given my performance against the final boss, I found I needed either cloak or I need to drop the hull smasher for a missile, since against the third form I lost in the energy duel(he easily overwhelmed my shields with his special, while I wasn't as consistent even with the beam spam I could put out). Also, can I say the second form for the boss is just... GRAH
Question: can Feddie Cruiser use cloak?
Give me cute or give me...something?Why not? Every ship can. You just need to get cloak system.

It's just that, in the winning game I played several consecutive shops that sold systems don't have cloak in stock...not sure if luck or what...
Also secret ship is annoying to unlock...even with a guide it's still hard to...
