I like either 2 or 3, although I like 3 better.
Going to say 3 as a vast majority of examples of the shelves are little lockers (without locks) open ones do not do Love Letter Lunacy well.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Yeah, I was leaning on the third image because like you said about the locks on the shelves. And I never thought about people putting love letters in the shoe lockers.
As long as this thread is active, I'm happy with more suggestions.

I can't think of anything good for a signature.I think it's probably something that only happens in anime
I like the third one. The second one isn't bad either.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Wikipedia says that it's also used in South Korea. But what does "only happens in X" have to do with choosing an image anyway?
something1.2 and 1.3 are good...lean toward 2 just because both sets of shoes are there.
It seems as it everyone chose number 2 or 3. The first picture, I admit, is bad because it cuts below the ankles so you can't see the shoes.
I can't think of anything good for a signature.Crowner's added. I didn't include the first option from #1 because no one gave it a thumbs-up to this point, but if you want to include it, go ahead...the options should probably be more descriptive but I can't look at them right now.
This is one of those fun crowners where I think all (well, both) examples would be good, so I voted for all of the currently available ones.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Going to say I like the one with doors.... that is the way they show up in media.... (meaning I have never seen one without doors ever... seriously.) without them Love Letter Lunacy can not happen, and that is the biggest related trope to these,
Detective Conan uses the slots as a mail drop for their detective agency with doors.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I've seen them without doors, and with letters. It's not necessary to have locks or that extra privacy for letters. In at least one case, I've seen them be placed right on top of the school desk.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Bump for votes.
The pics demonstrate, but they don't show the shoes close-up.
somethingLets see.... this? [1]
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!This one's ready to call. The new pic's up and tagged. Caption or no?
Hearing nothing, let's lock up and move on.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
The trope is about when Japanese students take off their outside shoes and put on slippers called 'uwabaki'. The image is showing a girl who is standing on her tippy toes to make herself taller (according to the caption). We should probably find a picture that shows students putting on the slippers.
