Maybe there's a fic out there with underage/pony sex that treats it maturely and explores character while doing so, I don't know. I do know that the possibility of having such a fic is vastly outnumbered by the fic that we don't need or want.

Ugh, I keep having to switch between comparisons. Let's try this: we do not have a problem with Mass Effect fics that contain human/alien sex, do we? (I need to establish that before I argue anything else.)

I'm going to say this: The issue is not that there is sex between cartoon characters. The issue is that the conetnts of the fic are there just to fullfill the sexual fantasy of their readers. I don't see why we're "recommending" this stuff. If we're gonna discuss fanfic because of the whole non-notability thing, then fine (That's not something I agree with, but I'm too jaded to actually fight against it by now) and if you want to make pages for fanfics with explicit content, then it's fine too (Under this rule, that is)

The issue is that a clopfic recommendation is inherently supportive of the idea of fanfics involving the detailed narration of cartoon horses fucking. I simply do not see how this is relevant to the aims of the wiki.

[up][up][up]Mass Effect Aliens are generally reasonably human, and the setting explicitly says that inter-species relationships happen. As opposed to My Little Pony, where I believe it's been established that the ponies reproduce asexually? Also, Mass Effect and My Little Pony are intended for different audiences, so their fanfic should be held to different standards.

Now we are discussing the reproduction methods of fictional cartoon talking horses... Man, I need to sleep.

AFAIK, Mass Effect is a series aimed at adults, and already contains mildly (and non-explicitly, I think?) adult themes. Is that correct?

If so then I guess porn of it should be treated like regular porn involving adults.

^^ Canonically they reproduce sexually in G4, but this is irrelevant since it's not like it's ever directly referenced on the show itself.

I feel like there's no way to win here. The standards never loosen, only tighten, and every few months, another thread appears that proposes tightening the standards. It never stops, no matter how much tighter the standards get, and no matter how many times a proposal to tighten standards is shot down, it only needs to be accepted once in order to never be questioned again. We're losing our ability to talk about sex like rational adults, and there's nothing I can do.

One of the best stories I've ever read contains explicit sex between a human and an intelligent horse. One of the best stories I've ever written contains explicit sex between a human and a barely-humanoid demonic being. There is nothing wrong with a story taking deviant sex as its subject. (Many of the things said about it are wrong, but this isn't about what people say about it, but about discussing it at all.)

What setnakhte (hey, you're named after a pharaoh) and others said.

So, what Bobby G said was interesting.

If so then I guess porn of it [Mass Effect 3] should be treated like regular porn involving adults.
Allow explicit recommendations of fan derivatives to depend on the explicitness/maturity of the media itself? I'd go for that.

The issue is not that we're discussing sex. It'd be far to disingenious for me or anybody reasonable to imply that we shouldn't dicuss sex. Sex is a part of life and art is supposed to be a reflection of life, if only through allegories and metaphors.

The issue is that I don't see why Tv T is 1) recommending fanfics when it's supposedly a descriptive catalogue and 2) why it is recommending fanfics involving cartoon horse sex, of all things.

Now, I haven't checked the MLP Fanfic Rec page, so I can't say this is true, so I'm going by hearsay. If I'm wrong and Tv T is not recommending clopfics and such, then I apologize and retire my complaints.

So what does that mean for the Tangled fic I referenced? I don't think it's any less well-written or mature than some equivalent Mass Effect fanfics (and it's certainly less deviant.)

Honestly, my opinion would be, "Hey, that's great and all, but no, we're not reccing it," followed by "Why would you write that about Tangled of all things?".

Someone linked this atrocity earlier. So the type of fic we're talking about definitely exists. O_O

I think fanfic recs serves the same purpose as Crowning Moment Of Funny. That is to say, absolutely none. This wiki's primary mission would not suffer in any way if we completely deleted both sections. In other words, any defense of fanfic recs must start with either "I want fanfic recs to stay around" or "I want something to stay around that should be deleted by the same logic as this argument for deleting fanfic recs."

Like I said, I don't follow MLP. I can't argue that any fic for it is actually worth reading. I just think that, if there are good fics for other works that have sex in them, there are probably good fics for MLP that have sex in them, so I'm uncomfortable with a blanket removal.

Autumncomet's sounds like a suggestion I could get behind.

And, feo, the Tangled porn would be banned under such a standard, obviously, and a good thing too. In the nicest possible way, I don't really feel I can just accept assurances of non-creepiness, well-writtenness or maturity from somebody who has a favourite work involving explicit human-on-horse sex and who worries that MLP porn might fall within the realm of things rational adults might want to recommend to one another.
