Season 1-4 fans unite! I don't doubt that some people who watch the show now were barely alive when "the next generation" started airing.

I remember Next Gen and I'm barely watching the newer episodes. I guess the only reason why I keep watching the newer episodes is because I keep hoping it might turn around and get better. But with the beginning of this new season, I see that isn't the case.

Hell, who am I kidding? Three seasons ago I knew it could only get worse, but I guess I have some some sort of Stockholm's Syndrome.

I recently started watching early Degrassi High and DJH, and now I realize how much the newer fans (myself included) have been cheated.

Season 1-4 fans unite!

I too think Degrassi missed something when it became the Canadian equivalent of 90120 and the kids started looking like models rather than kids. When the term "drama" started being thrown around in marketing that was the beginning of the end.

Agreed. And when each episode became an attempt to top the last in terms of "going there".

I think a lot of people consider anything after season 6 bad, but I actually liked seeing what happened to the original characters. The thing I absolutely hated (it was after season 10 I think) was when they had Spinner and Emma suddenly get married, it didn't make any sense to me. I did like seeing some of the later seasons when they showed some of the former Degrassi students in college like when Ellie, Marco, and Paige were living together, and it was sad when they had to go their separate ways, and when Emma, Liberty, and Manny went to college (whatever happened to Liberty and Toby, though?). I like that Craig actually came back in the Hollywood special, and Jay and Silent Bob too, and I think him and Ellie finally got some closure. Marco also became a student teacher, which was nice to see and Snake finally became principal. Degrassi has gotten a bit like a trashy, teen soap opera, though(sometimes they air the episodes in soap opera format, too). I think it's because it started becoming so popular in the US, I haven't seen the 80s ones but I've seen most the first 10 seasons The Next Generation, and the quality has really declined. Every time they have a new season, what they'll do is give reruns, which I love. One of saddest moments was when J.T. was killed off, and when they honored him at graduation it was pretty heartwarming.

I realize they're all too old now, I mean the main focus is high school kids. The storylines and characters were just better in the first cast set, and it doesn't help that nobody got a good send off. I mean, Spinner marrying Emma? And everyone else just kinda disappeared. Why can't Jay still be there? You know he's the kind of guy who would be buying beer for high school kids and be saying "That's what I love about these high school girls. I get older, they stay the same age."

Craig was my favorite character. When he left the show it went a little downhill for me.

But it was only after Emma went to college and then became a bit character where I realized the show lost a lot of its quality.

Peter was my second favorite character.

Holly J who only appeared in late Degrassi was pretty cool though. I wanted her to end up with Spinner.

[up]So did I. Infact, I think all of the fandom did. I cannot recall reading one post anywhere of someone saying they liked Spinner/Emma together.

[up] That came out of left field for me. I didn't see the movie although I want to. Didn't they get married because they were really drunk? I'm not exactly sure.

Please be gentle with me.

They got married drunk at a casino, but they decided to stay married because they realized they had some awesome bond or some shit. Which also made no sense, because they never really talked before then yet they act like they had been friends for awhile.
