- How will an image show the "earn" part?
- Wouldn't an image be, well, spoilery?
Apparently there was a thread a while back about this: [1]
That picture got pulled (for good reason) and it doesn't seem like anyone could find a good picture. I know I don't have any ideas.
Yeah, honestly we don't usually start a thread for an established trope unless there's a good suggestion to start with. I think this works well pictureless. The trope name pretty much says it all.

"Brainstorming about an image for an imageless page" is legit I think. It's threads about changing an existing pic that are expected to be accompanied by a suggested replacement.
...but I think it is fine without one. Certainly not that one.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I think I would like a picture of an battered but surviving warrior, at sunrise. That at least brings out the imagery of the trope.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. How about this?◊ Not exactly what you described, but the symbolic equivalent.
Awesome.
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartPretty damn close enough. How does it scale?

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Looks good. You can clearly see they've been working hard, as one of them can't stand up on his own, and you can see the happy ending coming through the rescue, the sunrise, and the falling tower.
Do we need any permission for it?
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Nevermind.

I'm gonna see if there are other pictures of the same scene.
That makes me less confused.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Brainfart, it's already at wiki size.

I don't really think we have permission to use it. I mean, I don't realistically see Michael Whelan sending us a takedown notice, but we're not supposed to use it, are we?
We could try to get permission.
On a sidenote, I suggest replacing the current page quotation with the Undertaker one from the quotes page.
EDITED IN: Also, we're technically not using the whole thing, would that cut it in a legal context?

"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartActually, I think that makes it even worse, since we're editing the picture without permission.
Meh, cropping isn't the same thing as misleadingly putting something in that wasn't in the original image. I crop images to get them within 350 pixels pretty often.
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartSame here.
"No part of this website, except those marked specifically for "download" by authorized parties, may be reproduced or transmitted in any form without the express permission of Michael Whelan. No works may be changed, cropped, or in any way altered and transmitted in any manner without his permission."
The terms of use page on the guy's website. I don't actually know if that applies to the pic I posted (I'm not sure if that picture was published as an illustration in a Lord of the Rings book or what) but it shows what I'm talking about.
How about one of a soldier returning home?
That first one fits something else better than this trope.

And the second is pretty text-centric.
I think we should try to get the permission of the author of the drawing.

So this trope has no image currently, would be possible to change that?
this used to be the image on the page◊
