Or just comment on another list that caught your attention.

If you make your own list, please add a small summary in front of every character.

I decided to do this list for the appendix I'll add in the end of the third book. I haven't finished the trilogy yet, so I'll probably still add a few characters. Anyway, this is the list for all the named characters in the Fourth Mystery series.

For clarification:

Bold and italic for main characters (protagonist, deuteragonist, main antagonist, etc.)

Bold for very important characters.

Italic for fairly important characters.

Plain text for minor characters.

Adam Henry Zadoc - Protagonist of the series. Unusually optimistic teenager capable of applying an inhuman intensity of effort when properly motivated. He discovers the Mystery of Time and Space in the first book.

Alexander Isyanov - A high-ranking officer of Noah Cartwright, who later becomes an ally in the first book

Alice Everest - Christian's wife

Andrew Ivory – Mark’s old friend, owns a large factory and helps in the creation of Mark’s spaceship.

Angela Campbell – Adam’s useless aunt.

Annes Ryanot – A famous racer.

Anthony Campbell – Adam’s useless cousin.

Arnold – Adam’s History teacher.

Arthur Hayden Gates – Adam’s classmate. He participates in the resistance against Noah’s revolution.

Beatrix Taylor – Susan’s mother (Adam’s grandmother). Gives him a videogame and does absolutely nothing else in the story.

Bertrand Gilroy – Robert’s uncle. A famous engineer. He participates in the resistance against Noah by allowing the other members to use his secret hideout.

Blacklawn – Redarkleon (alien from another universe. They normally do not speak, so the names they choose for humans to understand are in human languages and are usually translations of their original names, or simply names they chose for themselves). Former agent(small independent cluster of minds) of Myriad , also the name used to refer to the leader of the cluster. Becomes an important ally of the heroes and even helps Iris in her training.

Blanca Ortega – Iris’ Cloud Cuckoo Lander friend.

Catherine Dee – Whiny girl with exceptionally good memory. She was captured by Myriad's agents, but later rescued.

Christian Everest – Mark’s old friend. Helps the resistance against Noah.

Clockwork – One of the minds that compose Blacklawn.

Cyan – One of the minds that compose Blacklawn.

Deluded – Ancient spirit tormented by The Error.

Diana Wilson – Derek’s mother. She happened to discover the cure for cancer.

Doom – Ancient spirit tormented by The Error.

Edmund Stout – Ally to the resistance.

Elizabeth – Iris’ friend.

Elliot – A high ranking officer of Noah’s. Very annoying.

Eluxya – Powerful Guide. Often helps Adam and company. Member of the High Council of Guides.

Erimosz – Extremely advanced A.I. whose name literally means “Greater Amplifier” in Zeran (ancient language). It is hidden in a nearly unreachable corner of existence. It is the tool that The Master uses to create clusters of minds and portals to other universes. It was created by Teraus.

The Error – The main antagonist of the series.

Frank – One of the members of Dendrite (group of monster hunters).

Gabriel Campbell – Adam’s other useless cousin.

Gabriel Martin – Iris’ friend who refused to join the resistance.

Iris Sylvia Mason – Adam’s best friend. Responsible for the creation of the resistance against Noah’s revolution in Adam’s hometown and one of the heroes in the second book, as well.

Jasmine Frost – Police officer that investigates the portals. Joins the resistance.

Johanne Delacruz – Adam’s classmate.

Johnny - Wayne's rich friend, who lends him an airplane during the revolution.

Jonathan – Member of Dendrite.

Not to be rude... but what, exactly, is the point of this thread?

At any rate, I won't be participating, as I can be reasonably certain that my list would break the post.

Yes, that was rude (you wouldn't have said "not to be rude" otherwise). It's an interesting activity for writers with a huge number of characters, and it helps others to obtain a good notion of others' works. Not to be rude, but, if you don't care, you shouldn't have posted.

In the very least, glancing down a list could help other get inspiration for their own characters.

I'm not trying to be rude; I said that because my comments could easily be interpreted as such. But I just don't see what the goal of this thread is: even more so then many other threads here, it just feels like posting stuff about your story for no good reason, with a risk of one-upsmanship - "I have a larger cast then you!" - as well. Simply reeling off a list of characters with minimal context or information isn't really a good way to interest people in your story in the first place, but making a thread full of such lists guarantees what you post is likely to be lost in the crowd.

And on an unrelated note, this seems like this would be better for writers who do not have a huge list of characters, as their posts would be more readable and less wall-of-text-y.

I'm not trying to be rude; I said that because my comments could easily been interpreted as such.

Alright, let me clarify this: when people spend hours organizing something to post on a forum, maybe to get minimum feedback without trying to be obtrusive (instead, just suggesting an activity for whoever is interested), having the very first answer as "I don't see the point in this" is very annoying. Seriously. Maybe it wasn't your intention, but your comment still has that effect. If you don't see the point, let the people who see some point (like Parable and I) enjoy doing whatever pointless thing they are doing. This is a forum thread related to writing, not some pedantic, serious work that is supposed to satisfy everyone.

"I have a larger cast then you!"

That would be asinine. Having a larger cast is meaningless by itself.

And on an unrelated note, this seems like this would be better for writers who do not have a huge list of characters, as their posts would be more readable and less wall-of-text-y.

If you don't want walls of text, I think you should avoid threads like this.

Oh.

Why do some characters have no last name? I can see that some are code or nicknames but there seem to be normal people with only one name.

[up] For several plot issues, only some of the characters have shown their surnames. Some had to write their full name on a list (the resistance members, for example). The others do have surnames, but they didn't see a particular reason to mention them, or were just introduced very quickly. Some minor characters are only mentioned once, too.

I should probably look for surnames for them, too, even if they only show up on this list.

Thing is, it's not just a matter of "don't like don't read". There's basically four kinds of threads on Writer's Block. There's the threads that are actually about helping people with their writing problems. There's threads specifically devoted to one person's work. There's various just-for-fun threads like the "What would your character do in this situation" thread. And then there's these: threads where people throw out long lists of some element in their work, devoid of context and meaningless to those that aren't familiar with it.

People have complained in the past that the preponderance of threads like that drowns out the ones that are actually about letting people genuinely show off their work, and/or get help or reviews for it. There's been proposals in the past to try and split off the "serious" threads, but nothing's come of them, so the problem continues. And I've come to agree that it is a problem. So I think I'm entitled to question the purpose of a thread like this.

[up] There are many threads I have no interest in whatsoever. "What would your character do in this situation?" is one of them. "Character Resort" is one of them. Why? Simply because nobody cares about what other people say in these threads. They care only about their own characters and their own works. Still, I don't post complaints on these threads.

In this thread, you are allowed to act like that. You have the right to completely ignore my list and make your own. You might, as well, comment on the choice of names of a particular author, if you care. You could get some inspiration from a list, too. Even if it's not the full work (which would be too long for a thread, and even less likely to receive feedback) the characters summary can give people some notion about your story. Maybe they can even become curious about your work. It can help writers organize and record their characters, making it much easier for them to find a particular surname they don't remember, for example, or the name of a minor character they gave very little attention to, and that could be useful in some moment.

Either way, I respect your opinion about finding my thread pointless, and utterly disagree with it.

Are we done?

While I have my reservations about this thread, I'll go ahead and join in.

Lennik Sykari: Anti-Hero protagonist of the series, a selfish, greedy, and extremely boisterous Karaiyan elf swordsman with an unwavering fighting spirit and a strong enthusiasm for freedom. Age: 17. Alignment: Chaotic Neutral. Pictured in my avatar.

Vala Landas: Secondary protagonist and Lennik's love interest, a red-haired Eastern elf rebel with severe pride issues and a dominant and hateful personality, coupled with very heroic objectives. Age: 17. Alignment: Chaotic Good.

Arakin Sykari: Lennik's immortal great-grandfather and the king of Arakin City. One of the primary antagonists. Age: 120, but looks 40. Alignment: Lawful Evil.

Cargon: Usurper king of the Lavaran Mountains. Another primary antagonist. Age: 200+. Alignment: Lawful Evil.

Crendis Millson: A human boy with cripplingly low self-esteem, a timid personality, and a secret angry side. A Shout-Out to Shinji Ikari. Age: 14. Alignment: True Neutral.

Takon Garens: Lennik's best friend, an apathetic but formidable Karaiyan elf with a sense of duty and altruism. Age: 17. Alignment: Neutral Good.

Varya Landas: Vala's younger sister with similar pride issues, although she's much better in social situations. A Shout-Out to Asuka Langley Sohryu. Age: 14. Alignment: True Neutral.

Vincent Poole: A large and powerful man with a confident demeanor and hidden trauma. Age: 28. Alignment: Chaotic Good.

Lida Rakin: Vala's guardian, an enthusiastic woman and an Officer of the Curaewyn Federation. Age: 28. Alignment: Neutral Good.

Sakarac Sykari: Arakin's son, Lennik's cousin. Like most Karaiyan elves, he possesses a love of battle. Age: 16. Alignment: Lawful Evil.

Salena Kallin: A Karaiyan elf Empress who runs Salena Prison in the Lavaran Mountains, one of Cargon's most reliable fighters. Age: 18. Alignment: Lawful Evil.

Valoraz Landas: Vala and Varya's father and the General of Arakin's army. Age: 42. Alignment: Lawful Neutral.

Leah Sykari: Lennik's estranged older sister, an Officer of the Federation. Treats Lennik with an icy formality to hide her regret about their strained relationship. Age: 27. Alignment: Lawful Neutral.

Just to name a few.

This is the problem with what you're saying, and the only reason I continued to post in this thread - you seem to think that this thread is somehow going to be useful to people. I've seen this kind of thread time and time again, and they are not by any sense of the word useful. I'd use the term "echo chamber", but that's a false analogy: even with an echo, you'll be getting something back. With threads like these, you're just shouting out onto the void.

I don't like seeing new variants of these list-stuff-about-your-work threads created, but it's not my place to prevent it. And obviously some people enjoy them in some way. But you really are deluding yourself if you honestly expect this thread to be about the stuff you listed instead of just people listing their characters.

At any rate, though, I don't see this argument going anywhere good, so yes, I'm done.

Just to clarify, I don't think this thread should be locked - it's entirely within what the bounds of what Writer's Block is currently for. I'd like to split the serious writing help/review/etc. threads and the "writing stuff" into two separate forums, but until that happens it's perfectly within the rules for people to make threads like this.
