I thought about something else that could work yesterday: mecha. Here's some sprites of Gundam heads...any of these work as good or better than the faces/eyes?

I think the Japanese flag variant is still best.

[up]Anime=/=Japan. Also, that particular variation was used to represent their imperial navi. Even other flags of similar design are all military, like the imperial army and the defense force flags. Hardly related to anime at all.

[up][up]I don't fell a mecha is the best thing to represent anime.Also, I personally, I dislike square icons. They feel incomplete. Though I guess it wouldn't be too hard to take out the colored background.

Obviously. But anime = Japanese movie and television animation. I said it's the best one suggested, not that it's theoretically ideal.
