The eye is a good option too; I'd just like to see one where the color is a little more obvious. I played around with that one a little but didn't like anything I came up with.
Can we find a small Tsurime eye as contrast?
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I'm working on a big collage of potential eyes...might not get it done and posted until tomorrow, it's pretty late.
EDIT: Fuck...I should've saved everything I did as PN Gs, they crapped out when I did them as JP Gs...probably be tomorrow evening before I can get this done.

Alright, I'm'a start posting some of the stuff I've found. First off, three faces.
Now, a collage of some eyes...gonna do one more eye collage and stop there pending a need for more options.
Second eye collage. I know this is probably overkill, but I found some good sources and decided to run amok.

I like the idea of eyes, but I do not like these ones. They do not really look like icons but as cuts from a bigger image. I would rather go with Catalog's.
PS:Suggestion: Using the same image for both anime and manga icons, but having the manga one black and white an obvious square border, while having the anime one without background.

That's because they are cutouts from faces. GIS'ing icons for eyes was an exercise in futility, so I took the next best route. I like Catalogue's eye, but the blue in it is all but invisible, and I like having flesh tone around the eye.
As to the second part, I would much prefer the icons be very distinct from each other, to keep them from being confused.

I know they are cut offs, that is why I do not like them. Maybe if you edit the skin off, leaving just the eyes.
I think having a black border around will keep the image distinct enough. IT highlight the similarities of the two while keeping clear its differences.
Regardless of that, I think having a panel-like border is a good idea for the manga icon. It makes it more obvious it is about manga and not anime.
I'm not going back and doing anymore to those pics...it was enough of a pain in the ass doing all that cropping. Had to do it twice because last night, I saved them as JP Gs and the colors artifacted like crazy. Someone with Photoshop and more time and ambition than I have can play with them.
Honestly, I kinda like the faces more than the eyes.

Yeah, I kinda prefer the faces anyway.
Reaction Image RepositoryI like the eyes better—the eyes are more instantly recognizable as an anime style. The faces are tiny. If you don't recognize Naruto or DBZ, it's probably not helpful (although the big, spiky hair negates that a bit). I really don't like the Astro Boy picture—it resembles the Felix the Cat Western Animation icon too much.
See, I don't have any such pages on my watchlist, so I've never seen that icon that I can remember...can you post it? If it's really that similar, then we may need another option for Manga/.

Re: Felix the Cat, I was actually aware of it, I think they're quite distinct, and similar in a good way. East and West. This is all the namespace icons in full◊.
Re: Anime eyes, I'm not crazy for the Wikipedia one I posted to be honest. I mean eye is obvious, but that one's a bit inadequate.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Yeah, Felix is fairly distinct from the Astro Boy icons, especially if we use the one where he's facing to the left.
I also like Catalogue's eye. Since the round, huge eyes has been one of the most iconic (no pun intended) features of Anime and Manga to the point where even non-fans can recognize the style, I think it would be a good choice for one of the icons.
The Tsurime don't have the same nostalgic feel, in my opinion.
I would be fine with it being used for either Anime or Manga. I'm undecided on a second choice for whichever namespace is left over.
Visit my contributor page to assist with the "I Like The Cheeses" project!Anyone else? Considering what this is ultimately for, I'm not going to let this die.
I still like Astro Boy for Manga, but undecided on Anime. They all can work well.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Same. What about:

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Personally, I'd prefer something that represents the actual media, although that looks good.
That looks better than I thought it would.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Question - in the aforelinked namespace icon image, is the musical note for Awesome Music?
It's for the Music namespace (bands, etc.).
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Huh...I have several bands on my watchlist and none of them have that icon...do I need to drop and then re-add them for it to work?

I would prefer not to use a current (Rather divisive) series as an icon. Stick with the Iconic (pun not intended.)
But then again I would prefer something that is not series specific like the eye.
