The problem with the unintuative interface is mostly caused by a lack of popups and/or tutorials. It just throws a giant bar of commands into your face and expects you to know what a dot over a line connected to a dot under a line connected by a dotted line means.

[up][up] There are pop-ups. Not the most informative (generally they just describe the action, g. "Reserve time units for snap shot") but it's pretty self-explanatory anyhow.

Actually, my problem was more that, at certain times, it varied on which commands would lock in your choices, and which commands would allow you to back out. About half the maps I played, this resulted in me having mal-equipped troops.

Ooh that looks good...and base being vertical instead of horizontal makes some more sense...also this one has story continued from the FPS game? Wonder how will that pans out...especially with Bag of Spilling tech...

I'd complain about artstyle not looking like Xcom, but I know that I'm only person these days who wants sprite graphics tongue

Anyway, one of enemies in the screen... It looks like Gman/Slenderman combination. Seems like they are adding new enemies including aliens disguised as humans tongue

Xenonauts' art style is even less Xcom tongue Plus isn't Xenonauts more flash animation like? I might remember wrong though, but the comment on art style still applies

To be honest, Original's two cartoonish one wouldn't probably work these days and Apocalypse's(my fav one's) retro future artstyle probably not either =/

[up][up][up]There were always hints about human hybrids in the first game, and they definitely stepped it up in TFTD and Apocalypse.

Now that I think of it... You are right. I was short of disappointed how we never saw that in original game even though game's codex thing told that to us tongue Maybe we get more types of mission too~

To be honest, I think the new game's art style is pretty reminiscent of the original. It's a bit more realistic, and a bit more gritty, but the XCOM operatives are still running around in bright blue combat suits and they are still pretty stylized.

Just another indicator of how right this game seems.

Well it's good to know there's someone who's positive about this game...in Rock Paper Shotgun where people are normally reasonable it starts to show quite a bit of fanboyism...talk about bad...

Just wondering: did anyone think how the story would progress between the FPS and TBS?

Answer: It won't because FPS was intended as reboot, so it doesn't take place in same world tongue

Too bad, it does...

The shooter takes place earlier in the fiction, chronicling the aliens' first attacks in the United States. The strategy game we're talking about here deals with the global response to the later full-blown alien invasion of Earth.

^Well, if Zelda fans would be told by Nintendo that CD-I games are canon, guess what the reaction is tongue

Also, it would mean that Xcom started as USA originated FBI styled organization while original backstory has it formed by all nations after Japanese UFO combat organization failed. Also, first Xcom game treats the alien invasion as first one, having prequel to it would be weird.

Ah, okay.

I still think its bad idea because 1) Original game didn't need prequel 2) Original game's story didn't allow prequel(unless they would have done one of the Japanese pre Xcom organization 3) X-Com is international organization.

Actually, the idea of the open-source UFO Alien Invasion is pretty similar and is formed by the US Government, except the original organization never had actual alien incursion beyond observation (or not even that), ...and the later organization IS international...Linky!

Plus, it's a reimagine, things can go a bit different...

Also: new info on Bay 12, NeoGAF (there's more after that post)...

...In case you didn't get it, I have problem with America Saves the Day and the idea that all awesome organizations originate from there tongue

Also, "Thin Man"? Called the Slender Man appearance totally. But yeah, info sounds good if true. Though, only 4 soldiers at least in beginning thing doesn't. Neither does the fact that they got rid of time units which is kind of one of the unique gameplay things to series tongue Anyway, while it does sound they are gonna add some nice features, they are rather dangerously close to removing some of features that Xcom series has...
