Maybe they plan on "converting" the commander.

As an apology of sorts for the PAX footage not going up Jake revealed this nice little tidbit

You can now see what aliens you can target when you hover over tiles you plan to move to.

I just discovered a thing: Berserkers are actually smart.

One found itself flanking one of my soldiers, and rather than merely attacked it, used its first move to position itself on the other side of the cover, before using its Bullrush power to plow through both cover and soldier alike. This left the soldier exposed for its friends.

Also, I have now confirmed that Intimidate triggers Close Combat Specialist.

[up]It does?! Oh man, I already thought it was some hilarious Hoist by His Own Petard when it panicked someone into shooting them dead.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a Berserker use Bull Rush before, but that might be due to the fact that during the rare times one has actually gotten into melee with my units, it would have been pointless to break the cover because it one-shots soldiers from full HP (I usually don't bring Chitin Plating on someone who isn't a covert operative or the Volunteer) and SHIVs and MECs don't use cover.

I'm not really surprised to hear of that behaviour, though, since aliens will also happily use their grenades to remove XCOM's cover.

[up][up]Actually bit me in the ass for the first berserker I encountered in this playthrough, since I was trying to capture him and what triggered the Intimidate was a 19HP plasma sniper headshot crit...

Dude went from 1HP to zero faster than one can throw a poké ball.

[up][up][up][up]Oh, yeah, panic killshots are great. I had a terror mission, last enemy was a berzerker near my colonel assault. She fires and connects, he roars, she panicks and connects again, then as he moves toward her she gets her CCS shot and connects again. He started at full health.

He did not end there.

And that kill won me the mission.

I think one of the reasons everyone hated the "all overwatch shots one one" problem was how ridiculous it could look with snipers, who take so long to shoot that by the time they actually pull the trigger, they should be able to see they the enemy has already dropped dead and they'll hit nothing but thin air.

I just had a thought about the demo footage from E3. What if that was the tutorial mission? It's once again Bradford calling the shots, and once again only one soldier walks out.

He should really stick to the administrative line of work.

[up][up]Can't speak for everybody, but my issues were purely mechanical irritation. Wasted soooooo many shots.

My issue is that it gets people killed. Set up a kill zone, one alien runs in and wastes everyone's shots. Another alien then runs in and one-shots someone. Of course, this is mostly an issue against Sectoids, Floaters and Thin Men, since those are the enemies that are fought when the soldiers have no perks and, therefore, are stuck with crude, rudimentary strategies.

The game is up for Pre-order on steam

Pre=order and you can also get the resistance warrior pack which is like the elite soldier pack but you also get to recruit "a survivor of the old war"

And then it turns out to be an extremely wrinkly, old, Cyber-Carter. tongue

Seriously, though, I'll probably pre-order because I'll want it ASAP, rather than for any of the extras.

It's not how you wear it, it's what you wear.

I see a bright future for that soldier as a junior commander.

Did they explicitly say which of the stuff they're wearing is the pre-order bonus?

No specifics, just "outfits, headgear and warpaint".

Interesting that it comes with what seems to be either a unique or a veteran right off the bat. I wonder if that's going to be preorder only, and not be included when they inevitably put up the pack as DLC.

I wish there were a preorder option that allows to buy the game and any future DLC in one fell swoop.

I miss Ye Goode Olde Days when buying a $60 game gave you the game and everything in it, not most of the game minus whatever chunks they think they can get away with re-selling to us, along with promises that we can spend more money on the game in the future.
