I misread the post. Sorry.

A shot from the Simpsons opening? It seems like it's more obvious that those are all past characters. And I'm sure I could find a better quality picture.

Well, yeah, it's a huge composite. The idea is that I could get a high-definition version of any one of those frames and we could use that.

The Simpsons crop (350) from the wide image above

Looks pretty good. It's obvious to me that those are all callbacks, but does anyone that isn't familiar with The Simpsons want to weigh in?

I think the original was pretty clear. I had only read the trope title, and saw the picture in this thread, without caption, and I understood what the trope was. All I know from the series I've read on TV Tropes.

I got Loads And Loads Of Characters from the Simpsons image. Also, since it's a picture from the intro, it seems more like a presentation than a continuity nod.

The superhero examples don't work, since they're from different continuities. That's not a part of the trope as I understand it.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

If you mean one with DC superheroes, I think the DCAU is usually considered a single continuity. Still, that's not obvious to someone unfamiliar with it.

Let's just put the original one back. It wasn't misleading - there was nothing wrong with it.

I like the previous image also. Weak but way better than nothing. No good reason for it to have been pulled.

What about this one from the fourth Futurama movie? Too small?

I think it looks more like Loads And Loads Of Characters than The Simpsons one.
