"Hey, you were talking about pinkies earlier. Did you know as a puppy I can turn my front paws into hands and stand on two feet, pretty cool huh?"

"Okay...hey dad, could you put me down."

Gary let his son back on the ground and the puppy's body shifted to bipedalism. The collar also turned back into a vest, John preferred to wear that.

"So, what do you think?"

Penny sat down to get a better look. "Hmm...from a canine point of view, it looks kinda weird, like a person on all fours. But from my view?...SO CUTE!"

With his tail wagging and giving off an aura of joy, John responded "You think I'm cute?"

"Sure I do! Who wouldn't find a cute little puppy like you cute?" She tickled him under his chin.

John's tail continued to wag as he was tickled under the chin. He liked it when others touched him affectionately as a puppy.

Gary butted in "You know, you may find my son cute right now but he's going to bring attention like this. Besides, if he wants ice cream I think it might be better if he was human."

"Sorry! Good point! You should probably turn back, before we're seen." Penny stood up, and looked away rather embarassedly. "It's funny...people were always doing that to me when I was an ordinary canine. I never thought I'd be doing it to another puppy."

"Sorry dad! I'll turn back!"

John went back to being human in a flash of light.

"Right, so we can get ice cream now right?"

"Uh huh! I think I saw a stand back at the park! Let's go!" Penny rushed on ahead.

John was quick to follow Penny. Going from bare paws to wearing socks and shoes felt weird, although not as weird as the first time went human again after spending a good time as a puppy.

Gary was not as fast as those two but he could figure out what stand Penny was talking about and headed towards that direction.

Terry and the soldier finally touched down in the small encampment in the rainforest. A small cluster of similairly armour clad Revenge soldiers were gathered in the area. He would also find Ken standing in the corner.

"'Bout time you showed up, Kestrel." A soldier jeered at Terry's escort.

"You guys weren't kidding when you said you were leading an army. This must be a real large league of vengeful people..." Terry said.

Meanwhile, Penny had lead the pair to the park, and to a small snack food stand. But not what she thought it was.

"Oh, my bad. It's actually a hot dog stand. Do you want one anyway, or should we keep looking because it would that be...kinda weird?"

In a flash of common sense, John said to Penny "We could ask where the ice cream stand is..."

Meanwhile, Gary following his own knowledge of where the ice cream stand is, was now seperated from the duo but in the right location.

"That's a good idea! Hey, mister? Do you know where the ice cream stand is?"

The hot dog vendor made some barely-out-of-bed sounds and gestured in the vague location of east.

Looking at where the vendor pointed, John said "So, I guess that direction?"

"Let's go!" Penny grabbed John's arm and raced off.

The hot dog vendor slumped over his stand. "Oy, kids."

John being grabbed was sudden but at least it meant it would be easier to catch up to Penny.

Penny did mention she loved having fingers. John had to ask something, but it would be strange saying it in public so he used telepathy. "Hey Pe_ny, do you pr_fer being human?"

Penny stopped in her tracks, silent for a few seconds.

...I...don't know!...I mean, I like being able to talk, and pick things up, and do loads and loads of humany things, but I have to go by rules, a-and 'social norms', so I don't get hurt or look weird. I like running on four legs and being able to be myself and play with Lydia, but I can't be friends, family, on the same level as her if I'm a canine.

She gave a weak smile. "I guess...there's just good stuff and bad stuff. Neither one's the better one, but the other one's not worse."

"I see" John said back to Penny. It would be hard, wanting to be two things, but it seemed like from what Penny, she had more of reason to be human than John did.

The message John sent to Penny, it seemed clearer than all his other ones. "Well to be honest, I prefer being a puppy. I have no issue being human, it's just I don't like the type of human I am. I'm such an ordinary person, nobody wants to be my friends. Heck, some people don't notice me even if I stand in front of them, I might as well be invisible. But when I'm a puppy, people have to pay attention to me because I'm cute. People want to be around me! I actually had thoughts that it would be easier staying a dog, I only have trouble staying in my human form so if I do that, than I wouldn't need to find a way to stop me transforming..."

"Oh, you shouldn't do that! You'd miss out on things like chocolate and school and going to work! Besides, what would your dad or your mom think about you being a dog forever?"

____________

"Oh, we've got plenty, all right. The hope is, tonight we get even more." He gestured over to Ken, and further off a group of other shabby looking folks, that stood out from the soldier boys.

Oh yeah. That would be bad. But don't worry. We have special procedures even for large scale things like that.
