Trails franchise (Trails In The Sky, Trails Of Cold Steel etc)

The trope pages are MASSIVE unmarked spoiler laden unorganized disasters. With things like unmarked Cold Steel 4 spoilers in sections with Sky characters.

It is so bad that I would recommend you NEVER EVER look at any of the pages. Even after you beat Reverie cause it will stupidly have flat out have unmarked spoilers of Daybreak or Kai.

My attempts at getting some changes such as organize things properly by game got ignored.

Its so ass that it will just spoiler things 12 games and 20 years later just out of the blue.

The character pages also casually spoil Rufus is an Ironblood on the selection.

That's like one of the best twists of Cold Steel 2. Yeah, I'd better wait before checking those pages.

Granted, I did think he was with Osborne as far back as when he rescued Machias and friends back in 1, but then I got tricked into thinking he's not.

It's tempting at times to compare Rufus to Revolver Ocelot.

In regards to Gilbert, I single him out because he's such an utter buffoon. He's even dumber than Duvalie.

Duvalie at least has the mental capacity to use swords good even if she's not competent in other fields.

Duvalie isnt dumb. she has her reasons for following Arianrhod... she so energetic and proud but reactionary she is just 'bulliable'.

Her Japanese VA has carved herself a niche where she plays bulliable characters such as Uzaki in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!, Jahy in The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!, Yuragi in My Mental Choices Are... and Satania in Gabriel Dropout.

Gilbert... is a minion, the most minion minion there has ever been.

Elaine's Red Baron title in the English localization I'd "Beauty's Blade" in contrast to the Japanese version (and by extension the ZF translation), which refers to her as the "Sword Maiden". I've seen some discussion on the Falcom subreddit but I want know what this thread thinks. Personally, I don't have strong feelings to either.

Question: does anybody else think we could write an "Unintentionally Unsympathetic" entry for Irina Reinford? The story ultimately treats her as a good person Alissa just didn't understand, and a number of fans - and not just the ones in this thread - view her as a terrible mother.

Yeah, I'd say Irina counts as Unintentionally Unsympathetic. I couldn't help write the example though, it's been too long since I played any of the Cold Steel games.

She's kind of tolerable in Cold Steel 1 and 2 where she just comes off as distant and cold but at least occasionally does things to imply she cares like sending Sharon to watch over Alisa, and the attempt by the writers to show her in a tough love sort of way, IE she wants Alisa to be a strong heir for the company so she insists that Alisa prove herself on her own merits rather than being a spoiled heiress who wants mommy's attention.

I can sort of understand where the writers are coming from in the latter regard.

But I guess from what I recall of what others have said, she does some bad shit in 3 and 4, and it's kind of brushed on over?

It’s mostly just more of the same, just a bit more getting stuck helping the government and such.

I love it when characters lampshade that the giant sword should be impractical but just isn't because of training or something like that.

So Agate manages to corner the Jaegers and their commander shows up.

What a nice guy. Sure Jaegers are hired killers and war profiteers who are fine with raising children to kill for money, but not all of them are jerks about it.

They fight, and then Jaeger man starts doing the "You and I aren't so different speech."

....Really? Okay, fine, we're doing this again. So Jaeger man starts saying cryptic bullshit about how Agate fights like he was once powerless during a big crisis, and blah blah blah, Jaeger man feels the same.

Oh my god, Agate actually fell for the "Oh, you didn't actually beat me, but an ILLUSION of me." trick? Wow, he really is a displaced main character.

So Estelle and her not-boyfriend discuss the fallout of the mayor's arrest, and Estelle muses that while people were shocked, but not that much. And Joshua delivers some exposition about how the mayor wasn't actually elected, but given his position through inheritance unlike the others.

.......Wonder if that's going to foreshadow something with the Queen's nephew.

Anyway, Klaudia, errrr Kloe is here, and we're off to Zeiss.

No, it's just I have relatives in the Philippines, and the name Tita keeps making me think she's someone's Aunt.

I actually understood this exposition, basically the light wasn't connected properly, and that's why it wasn't working. The monsters caught the scent of the quartz since they weren't repelled by the lights.

Aaaahhhh, I can just tell this place is going to be my kind of town. Always great to see progress and industry going.

Speaking off, I would have assumed she would have made her debut by now. Must be further in the plot then.

So the newly introduced Kilika, who is the guild receptionist and totally not working for the president of Calverd yet, informs Estelle and Joshua that their services aren't exactly required RN since things are peaceful. Wonder how long that will last, but Kilika sends the two to meet the factory chief who is the mayor and might know something about the black orbment.

.....I've got my eye on her.

Tita is a weird character, she specializes in status effects. You can sadly only equip 1 status effect Quartz but she gets different cannons that have different Ao E ranges to where she can sleep or silence just tons of enemies and she has a blind craft. She is godly on nightmare mode where trash tends to be more lethal than bosses due to shear numbers. Of course bosses... are usually immune to status effects.

Being just a kid... she has loooooow HP, wise to keep your best HP Quartz on her at all times. Also she can be a healer, as she does have a heal craft.

Also, she is a year and a half older than Renne.

That is why Estelle is such a general use character, she can be your support character. A real Jack of All Stats till she gets demoted from Main Character status.

I don't think Renne shows up until the next game.

Tita is 12/13 in Sky.

The art style in Sky does make it seem like she is younger. But even when she is older she still looks young... like when she is 16 she looks like she is twelve. (just an image of what she looks like when she is older, don't have to click if you don't want to.)

So we meet up with the factory chief about the black orbment we got, and....... he's stumped about what it is, pointing out that there's no inscription of numbers that ALL orbments have as part of the production process.

So we finally have a name for Professor R, and it's Russell. Tita's grandfather!

Well that's convenient, we just happened to save his granddaughter and so he'll be inclined to help us.
