That fits Sidetracked by the Gold Saucer better.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.I'm not sure that's true... Sidetracked by the Gold Saucer is about mini-games in a larger game, not a larger game that is a Wide-Open Sandbox. I'm not sure this image is good for that, either, though... it describes what players often do with GTA's sandbox, but not the trope.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Changing it to a pie chart of stuff like
- Main quest
- side missions
- other side missions
- Minigames
- Exploration
- Random stuff
and such would work.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I agree with a chart like that.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Suggest indicator lines from all "outside-the-pie" labels, like "Main quest"... e.g. also "Minigames" and "Random stuff"
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.
The main feature of this trope is not that you do nothing but the main quest, but that you have so many options other than the main quest.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Yeah, you tell that imaginary whiner. He's got it all wrong.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I like Catalogue's second pie chart.
Catalogue's second image is very good.
Bump; comments either way on the second pie chart? I was wrong, the first looks better I think: in #6

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Seems to work. The largest part is exploration, which is in line for the trope.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.I like the pie chart.
I'm gonna make a sort-of executive decision and go ahead and put up the second pie chart since it's got more of a consensus than the first. Locking up.

I think this image is pretty good and it explains the trope well:
