I suppose that the pets are left at home when working with Check Up.

I don't know why, but I like the idea of foil!RD having a weasel-type pet, like a ferret or something sly to contrast with Tank.

I like Ferrets...and Check could still call it a rat.

@Sereg: Yeah I think Smoke Screen would have rescued his pet after it got caught in a fire doing something stupid. He scolds it for doing the stupid stunt but he takes it home and nurses it back to health. His pet now helps him do his job at the fire department, it should be strong, fast, and fearless. I say a full grown Harpy Eagle.

On Pets: Mice are nice. But the Turtle has a water affinity that goes with fighting fire. A showoff animal that gets injured in a fire would be best, yeah.

You know how Twilight Sparkle's parents where all suportive and what not (going as far as to enroll her in the special magic school?) it would make a nice contrast if Moonrise's family was the oposite. Not abusive or mean or anything, but just invalidating their son's life's work and thinking it's a waste of time. Like he shows them his masive board that displays all the conspiraices that are intertinwed throughout Equistria and they just sort of laugh him off and treat him like a silly kid.

Save the town from burning down? No problem.

Accept an award for saving the town? This is the most scared he's have ever been.

He kind of is. He is usually calm, composed, and quite, but when things get bad. . .

Hmm. . . that could work. He tries to hide his lack of public speaking skills, but he stutters , minces words and generally makes a foal of himself.

Possible backstory for foil-twi:

Moonlight Aegis (or whatever alias foil-twi will use as default) is the oldest of six. As the oldest, he bore the brunt of responsibiliy for helping to raise his siblings. His father was a member of the Royal Militia and was quite a strict disciplinarian - "Stand at attention when I'm talking to you!" - and placed a heavy expectation of exactitude upon Moonbeam, as well as the other colts. The single sister Moonbeam has is still just a small filly.

Moonbeam, being rather skilled with Unicorn magic, took entry into Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns as a chance to escape the household and get out from under his father's thumb.

Moonbeam was classmates with Twilight, and they may have worked together on group projects, teased one another, gotten along great, or whatever. Regardless, his father passed on during a Militia Drill mishap.

He regrets never having reconciled himself to his father, especially after hearing the will read - his father was actually rather proud of Moonbeam for getting into the School and left to him his suit of Militia armor and some other odds and ends as mementos. he may or may not have returned to Ponyville to help his widowed mother around the house, or the second-oldest could take on that responsibility. The second-oldest coudl have been the father's apparent favorite - neat, dependable, responsible.

How's that?

This gives him a guilt aspect, as well as a "well done son" angle as well. He's grappling with internal conflict about how he was raised and how his father actually viewed him. Also possible tension between himself and his younger brother, who was the favorite in the family.

"I know that Father loved me. But he never, ever said it. He was never one to get emotional. Sign of weakness, or some such nonsense. And now I'll never get the chance to hear him say it, ever. I miss you, Dad."

(I've seen this sort of dynamic in real life.)

Hoofington's location is currently unknown. But I like the idea of them coming from a town lik Ponyville (as Hoofington is implied to be) rather than a city.

EDIT: A bit on the dark side, but I still like it.

They encountered Trixie before the mane 6.
