Yeah, I can understand Miyamoto's actions here.

Well, despite his status, even legends will grow old, and the guy's pushing 60, so I can see why he would step down.

It's still pretty sad. sad

That's unfortunate, though he's had a very good run as far as the big-name titles go.

I don't really think he's had much to do with any of the Super Mario games since the concept for Super Mario Galaxy.

[up][up]And you're saying that's a good thing? O_o

[up]He's barely involved with Zelda anymore either, and in most of the projects he does these days, he takes the Team Dad role, being the oldest in the EAD dept.

Eh, no surprise here. That generation of developers is about to retire after all...

Oh god, the thread name nearly gave me a heart attack.

Anyway, good for him, he needs some time off from being infinitely awesome.

I think the recent Super Mario games have been some of the best of the series. I don't think Miyamoto's required for them to make more quality Mario games.

@miru: Sonic stopped being a competitor of Mario when Sega stopped making consoles, it's okay. tongue

[up]I totally agree with this. They seem to keep improving, actually.

You're slow at editing your statements!

Anyways, yeah. I think Nintendo's alright at their output without Miyamoto supervising everything. Their teams seem to have a good handle on things, generally speaking. Although it would be nice to have someone above each of the project leads supervising their output, it's not strictly needed.

Miyamoto himself may end up producing rather creative products and add to the company's overall output. It should be rather interesting to see.

Miru's gonna Mir.

That being said, good for Miyamoto. He needs to start putting more of his input in games.

[up]He hasn't even done that much for the past few games, and Skyward Sword got compared favorably to Oo T, so...

I've heard he wasn't that important to the newer games, anyway.

But still, this news gave me a bit of a jump when I read the title. I nearly fell out of my bed, even.

And sensationalist title is sensationalist.

You could've said "semi-retires". That's what I told me friends.

And so was I, the man's nearly 60!
