You would be wasted on us, Weasel. Besides, from what I've seen of Israeli government, sensible guys like you are needed at home right now.

...and now we just hope that the job doesn't get too suicide-inducingly boring over the next three years.
Basic Training was fun, though, in retrospect. Hard, but fun. And I got myself a very nice tan, too. Everybody commented on it. Combined with the military haircut, no way anyone's going to be able to recognize me as an Ashkenazi now... (well, assuming I wear a hat hiding my eyes... and the color of the hair... and speak with a different accent. possibly)
"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent."Out of curiosity, how recognizable are the different Jewish ethnicities to each other?

"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent."Can Sephardic Jews tell Ashkenazi Jews are Ashkenazi Jews just by looking at them? And vice versa? And so on for the other tribes?

Do note, however, that Ashkenazim really stand out among the other "tribes". Everybody else tends towards different shades of basically dark skin, hair, and eyes, while the Ashkenazim look essentially German. They also speak differently, and different culture means there are also subtle (but very obvious to those who know to look for them) differences in behavior. And of course, stereotypically, Ashkenazim are all upper class while the others can be whatever...

I don't know how it is in the Israeli Army, are you sure you can't work your way out of a boring diplomatic position and into a better one? I have relatives over in Israel, too. I don't know what their status is in the military, in or out.
