Hey can anyone turn this into a story? ive had this idea in my head for a while now and i have no way of doing anything with it. Its slightly based off Norse mythology (Yggdrasil, Niohoggr, Veorfolnir). here it is: Humanity is trying to tear a hole in the spacetime continuum to see if wormhole travel is a viable FTL system. As they rip open the hole they send in a probe with a video feed. Through the video they see a MASSIVE tree (Yggdrasil) that seems to be supporting the universe. Under the tree they see a massive snake/lizard thing (Niohoggr) and by massive i mean each of its scales has half the surface area of the earth. They notice Niohoggr is chewing the roots of the tree and they realize that eventually itll either wake up and destroy the tree or destabilize it by continuous chewing. So they opt to lobotomize it to stop the chewing and prevent it from ever waking up. They lobotomize it by launching 1728 Tsar Bombas (50 megaton output each.) in pairs of 12 into its skull. Humans then use various parts of it for many uses. Send huge slabs of meat to third world countries, They find the scales are hard as diamond but are reasonably malleable at a few thousand Kelvin and so are used in making stronger planes/tanks/rockets. They travel up the branches into where the tree's branches meet the universe and find each branch leads to a populated world. Also at this time they launch a few more probes into the nothingness (nothing as in they cant even see the color black out there) that surrounds the tree and find even more trees. I made this: Joe Guarisco

Think about it for a while. It does sound like an interesting premise.

You have an idea? Cool. Now go put it to use.

[up][up] Try writing bits by bits.

Ive found that writing bit by bit has me writing myself in corners and that writing chunks at a time has me burn through the plot to quickly. Im just a bad writer.

So write, and get better at it. (insert stock advice 'execution is everything' here)

And pacing? Bah, having full on ADHD and an IQ of 142 doesnt really help me with focusing.

I have a similar problem (too many chunks of story, not enough continuous story). It might help to sit down with a timeline and directly plot out what happens when. Figure out who's doing what (in your case, probably generals and scientists involved with the experiment). Find a source of conflict.

What's an IQ of 142 got to do with anything?

If you can write mostly intelligible sentences, you can write a story. Get to it.

Also, it's not like there's some big group of people out there who are great writers but can't think of an idea to save their lives. Virtually everyone here is great at coming up with ideas and varying degrees of OK, bad, or terrible at delivering on them. No one's going to write your story for you.

It's REALLY HARD to come up with a bad idea. It's what you put in words that matters.

[up] I dunno, this guy has shat well over 200 bad ideas out of his ass to date.

Anyway, ideas are a dime a dozen. It's how you write them (or draw them or whatever) that matters.

Dude Jack Chick had a STROKE from making up too many bad ideas.

[up]Does each individual tract count as a separate bad idea? I would say that 'preachy fundamentalist christian Aesop' is its own singular bad idea that Chick got far too much mileage out of.

YMMV i mean some can be kinda acceptable but some are just downright HORRIBLE. Though some are pretty damn funny, like the one about the "history of Catholicism" that was pretty funny.

The DnD one was funny in a ghoulish kind of way. It left me with a sadly very familiar feeling of wanting to simply shake my head in disgust.

And pacing? Bah, having full on ADHD and an IQ of 142 doesnt really help me with focusing.

You could, of course, stop making shitty excuses, get off your lazy ass and strive to be like one of these people.

Lots of famous people out there have ADHD. Know why they're famous? It's because they don't use their disability as an excuse. Rather, they worked with it, and worked through it. If they can do it, you can do it too.

the part where Joe uses "and an IQ of 142" as excuse to not do any actual work

This reminds me why I refuse to give a shit about what my IQ is. I still don't know to this day and I don't care to find out.
