I came across this very interesting claim on an imdb message board:
in the 50s, 60s and 70s, there were in the western world TWO big movie industries, not one : Hollywood and Cinecittà . The first was (and still is) the Dream Industry. The second was (but no longer is) the Reality Industry.
I cannot judge whether it is true or not, but I found the idea rather interesting, and I thought probably the fine folk here at TV Tropes would want to discuss it.
