It's perfectly legible, and vertical alignment damages the layout a bit. But this is minor, go ahead and create alternative versions and we'll see how the majority votes.

I prefer the vertical. Bigger image and more legible text is almost always a Good Thing. Not that the horizontal is illegible, but it's borderline "slightly hard to read/eyestraining" for me, which experience tells me will be found "hard to read" by some others.
