This is a response to Justice4243's comment on the Good Guy Lucifer thread. DO NOT ARGUE ABOUT ATHEIST BEING BETTER THAN RELIGION OR VICE VERSA

Really? A great portion of the OT is dedicated to the Jews being dicks and getting their asses handed to them on a silver platter repeatedly because of it.

Many instances involving Satan in the NT seem suspicious for a character supposed to be evil incarnate. If you did not had in mind that he supposedly wants everyone to stay damned (it is suspicious that a loving omnipotent God would require the death of the Messiah to save people thousands of years after the OS, but whatever), Satan's actions towards Jesus would sound rather benevolent.

Humans might have traded immortality for that, and Adam and Eve certainly didn’t get HAPPIER as a result (even before being exiled). Also, some of what the serpent says is only true From a Certain Point of View at best.

What Nahash said seems to had been the effects of the other tree, so there is plenty of room to interpret it as moronic rather than actively evil.

You do realize that the people killed where beyond the ability to actually act good and that the motives of the tower builders weren’t exactly noble?

We now recognise that people are morally complex, so at best Yahweh killed many inoccent people alongside the evil ones. Furthermore, the Flood was a completly irrational genocide as it was meant to kill off the giants, not evil people.

Considering Yahweh is supposedly omnipotent and all, I doubt the people constructing the tower were a significant threat to him, so why bother to kill them anyway?

If anything, this is evidence that the snake is all out lying.

I wouldn't trust Answeringenesis.org, considering that some of their interpretations have been noted as idiotic.

What? Because the Bible paints God as good and the Devil as bad we should treat it as propaganda?

Considering that Satan is not even always consistently evil (see Job's depiction as the original hebrew God-serving tempter)...

I’d be pretty unnerved by anyone who reacted that way every history book. A little skepticism can be healthy, but this is skepticism + a somewhat odd rule of thumb.

Most historical history books were blantant propaganda; only recently have we made unbiased works.

Values Dissonance, the events written in the OT where not written with the modern morals in mind. This is the same reason the Greeks had little problem with their gods as opposed to thinking they were all dicks like modern people usually do.

Indeed, although I do wonder if Yahweh as described in the Bible would even allow the violent societies of old to develop the way they did in the first place.

I won't argue God's punishment for Adam and Eve, but I will state that it is suspicious that he bothers to mention that they'll never have access to the Tree of Life (which is well distinguished from the Tree of Knowledge [of Good and Evil]).

What makes you think this thread is going to go any better than the other one?
