@Barkey

Actually, it's more like in these days. When I was a kid, the Apple ][ was actually one of the great gaming computers, with only the Amiga being a real competitor.

My how times change.

Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)

Well they used to be much more open but then microsoft became very monopolistic and won that war. So for a long time, Apple was this "open" underdog to Microsoft. But then Microsoft starting doing MSDN to support developers, was super open to manufacturers, exposed all sort of API to people, and poured billions and thousands of people whose sole job was to help you develop software and make money off their platform (and microsoft would receive nothing directly, but there'd simply be more applications for Windows).

Apple today actively messes up people's applications and tries to sue people and take independently created software, something Microsoft never done. Apple even makes their software not run on competitor's OS, which Microsoft does not do.

And really, I have to pay money to develop for their platform? That's balls.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why is it bad that you have to pay to develop things for the iPhone? Isn't that how licensing works? You make your own software and, by paying, your application gets put up on a reliable, efficient, international online store - seems logical to me.

I'm never getting a smart phone because I refuse to pay up the ass for a cell phone plan.

I'm fine with Virgin Mobile's 20 bucks for 90 days, thank you. Even if it is lousy.

I lucked out. I got my smartphone free courtesy of my sister and her fiance's family plan :3

@Blixty, what model do you have? The quality doesn't just depend on the OS, but the hardware as well. As far as I'm aware via word of mouth and my own experience, Motorola and HTC are great, while Samsung has shittier ones that crash a lot.

I have absolutely no idea.

Licensing? Hm?

I'm creating an application to make their platform more useful. What's the point of an iPhone if it had zero apps?
