Ciel sighed in relief as Vera taught the newbie. Detransforming, her Gem came off her forehead and changed into a pendant, which she hooked back onto her necklace.

Shizuko unfreezes, and panics. She attempts to move away from the American, How can she see me?, but just ends up tripping, How can she see me?, and fell down, How can she see me?. Her magical SEP field fades as she loses her trust in it. Everyone who cares to look can see her with a look of shock on her face.

Alicia nodded listlessly at Melody's introduction, not really catching much beyond the word 'Melody'; her mind was rather busy imagining the limitless possibilities being a Magical Girl would grant her. On her face was a sort of dopey half-grin that seemed more fitting for a druggie having his latest fix than for a 15-year-old American girl. It was only after Shizuko tripped over her own feet and revealed herself that Alicia snapped out of her daydream.
Conveniently, this meant that she also skipped over the entire part about Magical Girls and Soul Gems.
"Ah... are you alright?" Alicia asked. She didn't really know where this other girl popped out from, but Shizuko seemed so beside herself in fear that Alicia decided not to ask her more questions. "Don't worry, no one's going to hurt you," she continued gently.
That is all she needed. That is all... Her dreams of seeing the world have become her strength, and lifts her wings.
The next time Ciel glanced down at her feet, Kyubey was standing by her ankle, looking up at her. "Don't worry about translating, Ciel," he said, closing his eyes to smile. "We can handle that for you! Oh, but it won't work while you're actually speaking, though. Only telepathy!" Done with his side conversation, the little messenger stepped forward into the pool of light around Shizuko, bypassing Alicia to do so. "Hello, Sadao Shizuko," he said, sitting down. "It's been a long time since you've come to see me! Do you have any crystals?"

Vera took a handful of crystals until her gem shined. She tossed the darkened crystals at Kyubey.

Shizuko's fear softens slightly at the sight of Kyubey. Slowly, she nods, and she takes out some crystals, clearing her soul gem, and tossing them to him, not daring to say a word. Slowly she gets up, still clearly afraid, but now seeming slightly reassured.

Examining her 'Gem critically, Ciel found that she had barely any trace of corruption. Nevertheless, she picked a few choice Remnants and drained out the minute impurities, before holding them out. "I've barely used these, so they're still good for some gem cleansing," she said, smoothly switching to telepathy, That jump off the building took surprisingly little power, I was expecting more of an energy draw than that.
SCIENCE STRATEGY: When doing powerful physical attacks, use of physics and especially gravity can be very, very economical for melee meguca, bevause it means that much less power being spent on acceleration. Efficient meguca are less reliant on spawn-camping for Demons, and can afford to share more with their friends and colleagues.

Alicia gazed in wonder at the small, white newcomer. It wasn't a hallucination after all! She crouched to examine Kyubey more closely, her curious eyes scanning every part of the little creature. It didn't quite look like a rabbit, now that it was right in front of her - its ears were long, yes, but they were most definitely not rabbit ears, and they seemed to sprout from another pair of cat-like ears. Its face and body very much resembled that of a cat as well, but its tail was much fluffier than the average cat's.
"That creature I saw at the airport this afternoon... was that you?" asked Alicia.

As Alicia discovered Kyubey and began talking to It, Ciel's ears pricked. "Really, Kyubey? Approaching her so soon?" she asked in English, before turning to Alicia, not bothering to try and speak in Japanese, "I won't stop you if you really want to make a contract with Kyubey, Alicia, but you'd better think very, very carefully before going down the rabbit-hole that these other girls and myself have already dived into."

The threat seemingly over, Asuka stood back as everyone chattered amongst themselves. In English, no less. She was able to catch a few snippets, but her grasp of the language was still more than a little flimsy. Either way, her attention fell onto Shizuko, who was giving off a vibe of fear that made Asuka a tad bit woozy. She nodded along with Ciel when she reassured the frightened girl that they had no intention to do her harm.
Kyubey's talk of crystals that followed made her realize she likely needed to grab some herself. Stooping down she did just that, holding them up to her soul gem for cleansing. Admittedly she hadn't done much in the way of dirtying it — but one could never be too sure. Forgoing crystals was absolute madness.
The American girl's reaction to Kyubey was on of surprising familiarity. The white creature must have had his eye on her already. 'My my Kyubey you have been busy. Are you thinking this girl has potential?'
"Who am I, Elisha Otis?"

Before Alicia could get any response from Kyubey, Ciel interjected into the conversation with an ominous statement. Her curiosity turned to a different direction, and she stood up to face the Magical Girl with a serious expression.
"... Why would you say that?" she asked. "Is there some sort of catch to this 'contract' you're talking about? Some negative consequence in the fine print? Tell me."

"Nothing like that," Ciel replied, "I'm just hope you don't dive into this business thinking it's all Warriors of Justice or something equally silly. Before I came here to Japan for a holiday, I've been fighting Demons for a few years yet, and I can safely say that this job is not for everyone."
As Vera added her two cents, Ciel nodded, then added in telepathy, My old classmate found that one out when she left "herself" behind when we took part in a road race sometime back, and she dropped like a stone (ha) when we got too far from her Gem.

Hakona closes her eyes half-way, smiling. She couldn't accept her fate. She wasn't going to transform into a witch. She holds a small, silver pocket-watch in her hand while clad in a white and silver dress. The skirt was made of chain-mail and her legs were covered in form-fitting leather boots. She was going to die in those magical clothes of hers. The same ones she had wore through countless battles before hand. This was the price of her wish.
The silver Soul Gem emits a black, dead glow. It was almost time. "Promise you won't contract, Suzu.. please promise me." Hakona says as she turns toward her best friend, Suzu Tomoka. Suzu sits to herside, holding Hakona's wrist. The very same one holding the pocket watch.
"I won't contract.. I won't throw my soul away!" Suzu says through her tears. She couldn't hold it in, she was going to watch her friend die in the light of the pleasant sun. The city was going about its normal routine while she had to watch this. Watch this with her own eyes. "No... no.. please.. I can't accept this!" the brown haired girl yells out, tightening her grip around her friend's wrist. "NO NO! I CAN'T! I CAN'T! PLEASE, DON'T DIE!"
"I've fought... and fought.. and fought, Suzu-chan... I'm tired... I'm really tired..." the girl says with a slight smile. She didn't have a strong will, she only kept going for the sake of Suzu. To make her happy. "I also.. guess this is punishment for taking Dad away from you.. away from both of us. I deserve what I have coming to me.. hahaha." the dying magical girl closes her eyes completely as the clock continues to tick.
Tick...tock...tick...tock...
The minute hand passes the twelve as the minute hand strikes the space between the six and five. She only had two more minutes left. Two more minutes.
"Please.. please.. PLEASE.. HAKONA!" Suzu cries out again, her head falling onto Hakona's lap.
"I told you.. what's done.. is done." Hakona grips her Soul Gem, getting ready to free herself from this mortal coil.
"No.. no... no.. " the brown eyed girl goes into a mad ramble of both shock and sadness.
"I'm glad I was able to save you, Suzu-chan... really glad..." Hakona's eyes fill with tears. She couldn't come to face with dying, no matter how much she tried but she knew it was the only way. The only way to escape.
The minute counter passes the twelve again, prompting the large hand of the clock to shift closer to the six. The Soul Gem was almost at its limit.
The sun's rays pierce through the sky and down to the city below, reflecting off of the clear glass of the city buildings. The powerful light of the sun shines on in the world, as if to say 'Everything is okay, there is always tomorrow.' It seemed to be mocking Hakona, until the very end. She always thought of the sun as the light in the darkness, something to comfort her in her fight. Suzu was her Sun. Suzu always encouraged the girl to keep moving forward. Suzu was always by Hakona's side, ready to give her that light.
"No..." Hakona manages to whisper.
"Hakona...?" Suzu says as she looks up from the silver eyed girl's stomach. Her own tear filled eyes meet her best friend's.
"I don't regret it..." Hakona says with a smile as she crushes the Soul Gem in hand. The fragments fall from her palm and to the floor below.
"Ha...Hakona?" Suzu whispers in disbelief.
"HAKONA!"
An alternate possibility... in another world.... in another time.
Hakona walks forward and through the streets of this new city. She has her bag slung over her back, faintly smiling. The wish in this world was the exact same. To avoid Suzu's contract. She couldn't bare to lose the girl, she vanished from the world. She couldn't bear the pain of going through the world without her. She gave up her life in exchange for her own. She was fine with that. As long as Suzu's smile was there, she could keep fighting. She keeps her in her mind and in her heart.
"Huh..." the silver eyed girl closes her eyes half-way, seemingly a habit of hers. "Hey... Hello? Anyone present? HOLA! " Hakona calls out telepathically through out the city, using Kyubey as a relay.
"Are there any magical girls around here?" the girl says to herself, sitting down on a bench near a pay phone. She was from Natsumiru City, meaning she wasn't familiar with this place or the girls here. Hell, she wasn't familiar with the other magical girls back home. She did what she had to do.
"Testing... one two... testing."

Vera picked up the crystals from the ground. She took off her light bulb soul gem and with black energy swelling on the glassy surface. She pressed the crystals to the gem watching the shadows disappear into the crystals making Vera's soul gem glow much brighter. "Like this." she said. "The light can never go out."
