The Manor Darkly Is Not Enough - Maid RPG

"All right," Jessie acknowledges as Berenice approaches her alongside the wall. "Oh, just to let you know, Berenice: I'm not very strong, physically speaking, so you might want to hold on tight."

After feeling a firm grip around her, Jessie notifies "Okay, here goes," as she chants to herself I think I can, I think I can... slowly they start to rise up... (4 x Will(2) = 8 for levitating them up)

Not quite high enough to pass over, as they level off with the top of the wall right beside them at their waist level. "Ugh, forgive me," Jessie says as she struggles to stay aloft, "But this is as high as I can get now. Can you reach across the wall?"

Berenice grabbed the ghost girl and nodded. While she was expecting it, she couldn't help but feel a little skip in her heart once the ghost started levitating - like Peter and Wendy with the pixie dust, for a moment.

Near the top of the wall, the albino reached to grab it and hoist herself over.

Not sure if I can use luck, instead of athletics. My luck is 2, while athletics is 1 - the roll was 5.

It was a near thing, but Berenice managed to grab hold of ledge and hoist herself over to the top of the wall. Now the only problem was getting down. The moon wasn't full or high enough to shed light on the ground at the foot of the wall, leaving Berenice's imagination to fill the shadows below. Hmm... normally i'd call this athletics, but luck or skill might also be appropriate, depending. It's mostly in the way you describe it and what sort of character it is; i.e. a comically clumsy but lucky maid might rely on luck to keep from falling, while a maid secretly trained as a ninja might rely on skill.

Karina heard the order, moving was an entirely different exercise though. As everyone, she had her own mantra in her head. Don't think about the tentacles. Just, don't think about the tentacles. Of course, it actuality didn't help much in not thinking about them.

She was woken from her not-so-constructive thought process by her companions fidgeting on the top of the wall.

"Oh... I'm coming." — She exclaimed with a steady voice, even surprising herself.

Having good constitution, it didn't took her long to catch up to her companions on the top of the wall. On the other hand, staying with them proved to be a greater challenge. Maybe due to her enthusiasm to help her friends, she slipped, falling into a conveniently placed bush on the other side of the wall.

Maybe it was only their imagination, or their senses sharpened by the darkness, but Berenice and Jessie felt certain that they heard a faint "Why?~" coming from the bottom of the wall, accompanied by sounds that might have resembled sobbing.

4(athletics)*2=8 ... I would say she made it ... barely.

The burden of helping Berenice off her, Jessie grabs on to the top of the wall and looks to her side just in time to see Karina climb up and slide off the other side of the wall. Not wanting to get left behind, she reaches across the wall in attempt to hoist herself over the top. (4 x Luck(3) = 12 to get over the top of the wall.)

Somehow, Jessie is able to get a proper hold to hoist herself on top of the wall. From her perch, she sees the shadow of the mansion within under what dim night lighting exists. "Unless I miss my guess, that's Spyhold Manor over there," She whispers. "So our assignment involves infiltrating that place?"

Intrigued by the situation, Jessie leans too far forward. Before she can get an answer to her question, she tumbles off the top of the wall and into the interior brush alongside Karina. Terrible, she thinks, That's twice in one evening. As she pulls herself out of the brush, she notices the vampire still in the brush and... could she be... sobbing? "Uh, sorry, Karina," Jessie whispers out as she offers her hand to help Karina out. "I didn't mean to just drop in like that."

Berenice grabbed the edge of the wall, and cast a glance down. Well... that's not good.

Berenice was sure that she had her footing right, when a sob broke her concentration and she fell.

"Fu-" Luck or athletics roll for not landing on her ass?

"I always thought it's pretty... The way the city's lights reflect from the clouds." — Karina replied to Jessie in a quiet and calm voice.

The vampiress was lying on her back, staring at the clouded sky. Then a ghostly hand slid into her vision, disrupting her stupor. A few silent moments passed, as she looked at the hand, before realizing the gesture.

"Oh... Thank you." — She took Jessie's hand, visibly cheering up a little.

Then Berenice enters stage ?top?

When Berenice hit the ground she wasn't sure what she had hurt - she was sure though that she had not just landed on the ground.

"Karina!" The albino scrambled to get up, "Are you okay?"

[response]

"Also... who was sobbing?"

Karina's smile didn't last long. Before she managed to sit up, she noticed a strangely familiar shadow approaching from above. Berenice? she thought, before the impact pushed her back to the ground.

It was a painful reunion, considering Berenice's spiked uniform and Karina's just as pleasant Maid Training Exoskeleton.

"Karina! Are you okay?" — she heard Berenice's question. — "Also... who was sobbing?"

The vampiress considered a witty reply about the sturdiness of undead bodies, but once she heard the second part of the inquiry, her (sturdy and not exactly living) body failed to comply.

Then came the awkward silence, at least for Karina, it felt like one.

Unaware of the danger from above, Jessie places her free hand over Karina's so she can use both hands to help her up. Before she can do so, Berenice lands down on top of Karina. With her hand adjoined with Karina's, the force of the landing pulls Jessie back into the brush with the others.

When Jessie opens her eyes, she sees nothing but albino flesh immediately in front. When she pulls herself away a little, the dress comes into her view; Specifically, the chest area of Berenice's blouse. It turns out that she has gone through the front of Berenice’s dress, but not through Berenice herself.

"Ah!" blushing and startled speechless, Jessie wrangles free of the others and starts bowing apologetically to Berenice.

Berenice, took a moment to realize that not only had she landed on Karina, but that Jessie had landed on her... in her?

Scrambling back up, she put her mind back to the task and hoped that no-one noticed her blushing.

"Okay... now that we're all over - let's head to the Manor."

Hearing the "command", Karina, almost on autopilot, took a few steps towards the manor, before realizing the lack of subtlety in her actions.

It was obvious, even to her, that waltzing trough a wide-open area wasn't a valid tactic for infiltration.

"Should we... ...go around along the wall?" — She turned back towards the others, emphasizing her point with a few uncertain circling gesture.

"I'm not too good in things like this." — The insecure vampire added, averting her eyes, focusing on the grass in front of her instead.

2(luck)*2 = 4 I just thought Karina might get lucky and accidentally find a four-leaf clover, so, yeah... I'm just leaving this in for reference.

The soft hum of her cellphone vibrating in her pocket informed Berenice that she had another message. It is again from Gemma. She writes, "If you're still near the wall or on the lawn you should get moving. They've broken up and are patrolling the upper floor again, so they might see you out a window."

Hearing the soft buzz, Karina followed Berenice's hand as the maid reached for her phone.

The vampire appeared curious about the message, yet the fact that it probably came from Gemma was reason enough for her to be alarmed as well.

As she waited for the albino to decipher the message, the vampire absent mindedly produced a ciggy, and her trusty lighter from her pocket, proceeding with her usual ritual.

She probably didn't thought it trough, or... well, maybe she just didn't noticed at all, what she was planning to do. Otherwise it could have been obvious to her, that lighting a cigarette wouldn't be the smartest move, if one planned to stay hidden.

Someone might want to warn Karina before she blows your cover.

Berenice flipped open her phone and read Gemma's message. Crap.

Her ears pricked up, or they would have if they weren't human-style ears, at the sound of a lighter. The albino turned towards Karina to see the cigarette.

"Karina!" Berenice hissed in a whisper, "Not here!"

[response]

"Gemma said that they're patrolling the top floor - we need to get off the lawn and somewhere they can't see from the windows."
