Unlikable Asshole & Even More Unlikeable Asshole 2 was probably one of the worst games I've played in my life.

And it sold enough to warrant another sequel?

Ugh.

I don't really understand why people say the Kane & Lynch games are so bad, sure they aren't that good but they are mediocre at worst. And at least the characters are unlikeable on purpose compared to all the other games where the developers are surprised people don't like their characters.

Just when you thought there couldn't be anything worse than COD.

Because them being unlikeable is their ONLY trait. Kratos is an unlikeable asshole, but its entertaining watching him wreck shit.

These guys are just jerks doing jerky things in a generic cover taking bland shooter with absolutely zero twists or anything to stand out other than "Uh these guys are jerks"

[up]Not to mention that although the character of Kratos more or less stays the same from the beginning to the end of his story, it's fun to see his ups and downs.

Kane and Lynch just struck me as really grainy and unpleasent, both as a setting and as characters.

And yet this gets a sequel whilst Alpha Protocol gathers dust sad

Yes, well, Kane and Lynch do face consequences for their Jerkass behaviour many times. Lots of people end up dead for starters. Kane's daughter hates his guts. Lynch lost his girlfriend, and he was so upset over it. I would say that both of them are on the level of Cosmic Plaything.

Last I checked, they hijacked a plane full of civilians and they're trying to get out of China. Where do you suppose they'll crash that plane and, most likely, get everybody else killed? If a third game comes out, I'm sure it will go into that.

I like the fact that they're not your usual videogame Big Damn Heroes. In fact, they're the opposite. And it's great.

Alpha Protocol made less than Kane & Lynch, and Obsidian has other projects.

While I understand that Alpha Protocol is a pretty underrated game (I had fun with it myself) one of the things is that the not so stellar reviews and not that good sales basically means not many publishers will touch it (and I doubt that the game's cheap)...K&L at least have sales to back it up though...although I wish IO would continue with Freedom Fighters rathern than with K&L...

@ post 11 Except NWN did get a sequel. And while AP was good, a real sequel wouldn't really work because of how different the endings could get, a spiritual one might.

And yeah a Sequel to Freedom fighters would be good perhaps we'll see after Hitman 5 but I don't even know if the same people that made the earlier IO games are still with the company.

Anyone think these two will get a Shout-Out or cameo in Absolution? It's the least iO can do seeing as I have no clue who these guys are and, judging by the comments, probably don't want to.

Show some love.

There was a newspaper article in Blood Money that mentioned their escape from prison so they might share a universe and maybe K&L3 ties into Hitman 5 since both games are set in the US. This seems more and more likely based on how much they've changed for Hitman 5 to make it a more mainstream stealth action game.

Three things irk me about Kane & Lynch as a series:

  • 1. How its ad campaign seems to be arrogantly trying to lead some kind of reconstruction on Grimdark Anti heroism, when in fact, right at this moment in our gaming generation we're oversaturated with it.
  • 2. The fact that one bad review about this game is enough to get a guy fired.
  • 3. The continuation of this series feels like an exercise in scorned auteurmanship.
